When contacted by ESPN.com on Wednesday, a Yankees official said the club has never brought up the topic of attending poker games with Rodriguez. Scott Boras, the third baseman's agent, also denied that the Yankees had warned his client.

"The Yankees have never addressed or spoken with me in regard to any off-field activities regarding Alex Rodriguez. And the Yankees have never spoken to Alex regarding any of his off-field activities," Boras was quoted as saying in a story published Wednesday

Also wanted to add I think this story is ridiculous. 99.9% of the people I know play poker, and it says absolutely nothing about their character. Let the man do what he wants to do. It hurts nothing but his wallet.

This is a different, and eye-popping situation:

Although they're powerless to stop him, the Yankees have warned Alex Rodriguez about the dangers of frequenting illegal city poker clubs , the New York Daily News reports.

It was reported a month ago that Rodriguez had frequented a Chelsea club with professional poker player Phil Hellmuth. Sources told the paper that commissioner Bud Selig was "keeping an eye" on A-Rod and would step in "if necessary." If Rodriguez wants to associate with gamblers on a regular basis, he'll have to do better than 2-for-17 in his next postseason series. Can't afford to make anyone suspicious. Nov. 2 - 4:40 am et

Now for those who don't watch Poker on ESPN, Foxsports, etc, etc.....Phil Helmuth is one of the biggest CRYBABIES in poker, or sports entertainment, period. When he lost to Anne Dukes, his lost it. So, for ARod to assoicate himself with Phil Helmuth, speaks volumes about the character of Alex Rodriguez. And for ARod sake, if he wants to play poker, he needs to do it in legitmate places, not back alley "bars", so to speak.

I think Hellmuth is great. If you play pokera good amount, and you play it right, and you get screwed by idiots, you know why he acts that way. If you had that kind of money on the line, you'd get into it too if you got screwed. This isn't like baseball where you get paid, THEN you play. In poker, you have to earn it before you get it - even when you're a pro.

Yeah, but Phil goes way over the top. "If it wasn't for luck I'd never lose." Gimme a break Phil, I've seen him play the same crap cards and win on them that he complains about other people playing.
