I don't believe Jones would really be a top defender in CF.

 

I do think he's a decent fallback option for RF if...

 

...you can find him a good, cheap platoon partner with the defensive profile to play RF.

 

...Jones gets fewer than 25 PAs all season versus LHP.

 

...your middle infielders hit 1-2 in the batting order.

 

...your CF has enough offensive oomph to hit fifth.

 

...Jones doesn't cost more than $3.5 per season for two years.

Jacque Jones is the quintessential Hendry-player. Toolsy. Decent numbers in all of the triple crown numbers. No plate discipline. No real power. Way overvalued.

he'd be an ideal 5th outfielder, as he has some pop and he plays decent defense. but it's not worth the risk of having dusty misinterpret yet another signing and commence to starting him everyday in center. he's also not worth 5 mil per.
