Well, Jeff Allison was the biggest bust there.

Harvey's way behind even the other high schoolers on that list, though.

You don't think Allison has a chance to battle back?

Harvey is definitely way behind. :(

I'm curious if he would be that far beind if he were in another organization.

To be fair, the knee set him back by a year.

He should stay at SS, he can hold his own. The one time I saw him, I was impressed with his range. He definitely needs better plate discipline. He was robbed of the BA Minor League Player of the Year.

IIRC, he was actually drafted as a somewhat light-bat, good defense SS.

I had gotten the impression that since he hit for power his senior year, he was considered a much better hitting prospect and no longer just a good defense-kid.

Looking at that 2003 first round, that was an impressive draft (link).

Wood isn't the only Angels SS prospect in the farm. Eric Aybar is a good looking SS prospect too and was the reason Brandon Wood didn't get promoted to AA this past season. And don't forget they have Jered Weaver.

IMB, if both Kotchman and Morales are on the same team, I expect Morales will play LF.

Aybar and Kendrick have come up through their system together as a double play combo, they're good. I so them play when they were in the Midwest League (Cedar Rapids). These guys are both can't miss prospects. If I were running the Angels and I were smart, I'd move Wood this offseason when his value is sky-high, and stick with the plan for having Aybar and Kendrick be the DP combo long-term. After all, Wood showed nothing like this before this year. That's EXACTLY the kind of kid you move in trade to maximize team value. In fact, it's exactly what WE should have done last year with Brian Dopirak, same kind of situation.

Unless they somehow screw things up, the Angels are going to be very very good for a very long time. Move over Yankees.

True. I would like to see him play some time....along with the other youngsters.

OT: but how did Tim Stauffer only get a 750 K signing bonus!?

Someone may have more details, but I believe it surfaced after the draft that Tim had some arm troubles. He disclosed them prior to contract talks, and the result was a reduced bonus, but Tim could sleep soundly at night.

Yes, I believe he actually gave money back, or countered a much higher offer with the 750K.

He disclosed after he was drafted, the Padres had him take an MRI and offered him a lower contract to which he agreed.

As I recall, it was a shoulder injury that curtailed his stuff a fair amount.

He still turned into a decent prospect, but is nowhere near the level he was before that injury.
