2) Milton Bradley, I'd give up Walker if absolutely necessary, but I'd rather not. Brad Wilkerson is the alternative.

Walker for Bradley straight-up makes so much sense for both teams, I think it could happen. LA desperately needs the offense, and it allows them to move Kent to 1B. We get our leadoff man and CF. Get it done.

4) Second Base. If Walker is dealt, then it's obviously a need. If Marcus Giles is available jump at it. If Brian wants to play with Marcus, this moves up the list.

Cedeno/Giles would be my preferred double-play outcome, I just don't think Atlanta would really trade Marcus--and even if they would, I think the cost in players would be too high. We don't exactly have a good track record in dealing with the Braves.

5) Relief pitching. Another 7th-8th inning arm is needed. Bob Howry, B.J. Ryan(moving Dempster to setup), Octavio Dotel, and possibly Tom Gordon are FA targets. Trade targets? Rafael Betancourt, David Riske, Scott Linebrink come to mind off the top of my head.

These are all good names to add to my list of Crain, Romero, Eyre and Gonzalez. The exceptions are BJ Ryan (love him, but will be too expensive) and Flash (too old).

You think Beltran is more valuable than Aramis?

I don't think that's the way you have to look at it. The way to look at it is would I rather:

Nomar 3b

Furcal SS

Beltran CF

or would I rather have

Aramis 3b

Furcal SS

Preston Wilson CF

Beltran could probably use a change of scenery about now. Bad move by the Mets. They still have Cameron, so they could put Floyd in LF and Drew in RF. Beltran is a much better player than his 2004 season. He's what we hoped Corey Patterson would become.

It's not a deal that is likely to happen, but I would make that trade.

One problem with your scenario is Nomar is a health risk, so who is your sub? The 2nd problem that I see is that Beltran is a wonderful player with one of the worst contracts in the history of sports. I don't want that albatross on the Cubs future spending.

Beltrans contract is not that bad at all. Its set up with 22M deferred money at 1.7175% interest which reduces the present value of his contract significantly. Jeez, Id love to get him just so the cubs can get an ocular enhancer machine, thats the only way corey is going to get fixed.

I wonder if Jose Cruz, Jr. would be a good short term solution (1 year) for CF and lead-off. Nice OBP (100 points above batting average), decent slugging and he's a free agent. He had a terrific September.

Didn't he get released twice last year? I'm not necessarily against the idea, but let's just say that he's not my first choice.

I think he was traded then released. Cruz isn't really a CF either. This was his first time playing there since 2001(?) and he was pretty subpar defensively.

Yes, Arizona released him in July and then Boston released him in August. He had ~115 PAs with the Dodgers in September:

.317 .400 .604 1.004 (ave obp slg ops) with 6 home runs and 15 rbis.

The league must have thrown out his "book" when he was cut the second time, so they didn't know how to get him out ;)
