McCarthy left off Playoff roster

All the Sox fans are going crazy on WSCR about Marte being on the playoff roster and Brandon McCarthy not being on it. One highlight - a sox fan called in and said " What does Ozzie have Dusty Baker making these decisions for him!?" Funny stuff.

you don't need as many starters in the playoffs. 4 are enough.

Wow, that is unbelievable. He's been lights out since he got called back up. 1.69 ERA, 0.91 WHIP in 42 2/3 innings. Looks like Ozzie is definitely taking a lesson out of Dusty's playbook-get the vets in there even if it hurts the ballclub.

Ozzie took El Duque also, who is a starter. So he still took 5 starters even though they will use the four man rotation. McCarthy has been way better than El Duque recently. Dumb move by Ozzie, but he's been making them all year.

I think the rub is that Marte was virtually kicked off the team at one time and his #'s against lefty's are worse than against righties and that McCarthy has been lights out against lefties.

 

No way does Dusty ever take a veteran loogy who can't get lefties out over a rookie can............oh forget it :wink:

McCarthy just pitched yesterday so he can't go again til Thursday anyway. And despite being one of their best pitchers of late, he is not going to start ahead of Buehrle, Garland, or Contreras (who has been arguable their best pitcher the past 2 months). By the time his turn in the rotation would come around, odds are, the first round is over anyway. They have far more need for a relief guy, who is conditioned to that role, and can pitch in every game if necessary, than a fifth starter. And since the WS are gonna get swept in the first round anyway, it becomes even more of a moot point :wink: .

Yup. I haven't seen the Cards NLDS roster yet, but Marquis had very good success vs the Padres, so a lot of people thought he may be on that roster but not the NLCS if they make it to the next round.
