remember when the astros signed petitte and clemens? a few of us were very worried about it but most ripped the signing and basically said they were overated, over paid and over the hill? there was no way that clemens,petitte,oswalt and miller(at thetime) compared to prior,wood,z and maddux. -not even with their offense last year!

Yea we all laughed at Pettitte, which I still think is going to suck for them next year. They owe him what, 17 mil next season? Add that to the 20sum million that Clemens will want to stick around and thats probably more than half of the payroll.

 

But, the Clemens signing did indeed scare us.

I thought the Pettite signing was dumb because I personally felt that Pettitte wouldn't be that good when removed from the Yankees stadium, especially considering his 4 era. Boy, was I wrong. I also felt that signing Maddux was a desparation move by Hendry to provide more strength to the SP after CLemens signed with Astros. I liked signing Maddux but I didnt like the 3rd option year.

If Clemens could get 17 million after filing for arbitration last year, what do you think he'll ask for this year after posting a sub-2 ERA?

 

I'm thinking 20 million to keep him around.
