I've been wondering for a while now, even though the Cubs probably won't fire dusty after this season, has he been clearly bad enough to utterly destroy the positive aspects of his reputation and ensure that his next job will not be heading a ML team?

Not yet.

My greatest fear is he will have achieved this by the end of next season.

At the expense of another lost year for the Cubs organization.

Nah, we need Dusty running another team, preferably the Cards into the ground. We need to keep his rep up.

Some team will look at Dusty's overall managerial record and give him a job.

Or his skin color

What?

Apologies for the vague response. I was only insinuating that Dusty would likely get hired simply because he would be a "minority hire". No racist intentions whatsoever.

Hmmm..... I'll take your word for it, though

I think teams would look at his .530 winning percentage over his skin color. Gosh, with first time hires of people of color like Randolph and Guillen, I'd think fans would get over this "minority hire" garbage. If that were really the case, then why hasn't anyone hired Cito Gaston, a two-time World Series winner? Or Baylor? Who, I think, has shown through his teams' records, that he's just not a good manager.

I was listening to LA radio on my way to work today and they were talking Jim Tracy and his apparent "lame duck" status. They have no doubt that he is gone this season. What was interesting is that they mentioned Chicago as a possible opening for managers. In total they counted LA, TB, Pittsburgh, Fla, KC & Baltimore as possible open jobs. Interesting to be included in that by national media.

I am all for a Tracy/Dusty swap.

I have never understood the love for Jim Tracy.

Maybe I'm too cynical about it. I know it's a big deal in the NFL, what with their "mandatory interview of a minority" policy and all. I'm guessing Dusty is actually very well liked in the baseball world, and he wouldn't have much of a problem getting a job anywhere.

I think Dusty would get hired by another team just because of his record, which overall isnt very bad.

Dusty getting hired because of him being a minority may happen, but its no reason to dislike him..NONE what-so-ever.

If Hendry extends his contract and as a result the Cubs Minor leaguers are trades/run into the ground..we need to address it..and THAT is a reason to dislike him.

maybe, but I think Lovie was an excellant hire by da Bearz, and honestly he may not have been given the oppertuity w/o that requirement....

Agreed, but it's silly how teams can get into trouble for not making that mandatory interview. Didn't the Lions catch some heat for hiring Mariucci without giving their token minority interview?

BTW, I never meant to insinuate that I didn't like Dusty because he was black. I hope that's not what anyone construed from my comment.
