Do you actually think steroids didn't make a difference when Bonds OBP jumped to .500 and then to .600? Trying to compare a non-steroid A rod to a steroid laden Bonds is Apples to Oranges. I guess what your really asking is whether A Rod can achieve a .600 OBP using steroids. I'd venture he could. Currently, A Rod's OBP @ 30 years of age is .418 this year, in 1994 (when Bonds turned 30), his OBP that year was .426. I really don't see much of a difference in the numbers during the year when both players reached 30 years of age.

no reason to believe frank thomas wasn't on steroids for the past 2 decades. no reason to think he is/was other than the fact that he obviously understands the benefits tremendous strength has for his baseball game. It's silly to say that just because he's been huge since before you heard of steroids in baseball, there's no possible way he ever used them.

edit: To be clear (since people love making huge unwarranted assumptions) I'm not accusing him of ever using steroids or that there is any evidence he used them

I agree for the most part, but if a player's head suddenly significantly increases in size, there really aren't too many possibilities as to why. You can bulk up any numer of legal ways, but a burgeoning skull has very few explanations.

Does HGH actually make your skull grow? seems extremely unlikely.

And if they wanted to, they could make an exercise machine to make your head bigger. work the jaw muscles (which go all the way around the head on men) and neck muscles enough and you're talking some serious volume added.
