BA named Delmon Young the Minor League POY. Brandon Wood was robbed. :( BA had a chat in relation to that, and there was one very interesting Cubs-related question:

BA Chat[/url]"]Q:  Jon from Lexington, KY asks:

Which of the three starters at West Tenn.(Ryu, Nolasco, Pinto) would you predict has the best future?

A: John Manuel:

It's very hard to tell; Ryu probably has the highest ceiling, but we've heard nothing but good things on Nolasco this year, and it sounds like he could be a solid 3rd starter if he maxes out, more likely a No. 4 or No. 5 guy. i think the other two guys most likely end up in the bullpen, but I might be selling Ryu short.

Sounds like BA recycling out-of-date info and "what they've heard" as opposed to having watched any of the three recently.

Yeah, I don't know if Manual has any idea whether Ryu is throwing 88 or 95 these days.

Interesting. I didn't think Ryu would rank quite as highly as those guys without his lost velocity.

So, to repeat a question I asked a few weeks ago, how much velocity has Ryu lost? Early spring/summer I was hearing mostly 80's. 2-3 weeks ago DJAXXFAN said he was consistently 91.

Was that a good day, and most other days he's 88-91? Was that a finesse day, and as often he's popping 92-94 these days? Touching 95-96 when he just feels like gunning it? We know the guy has an interesting curve and change. But how good is his fastball, really? And how good does it project to be next year?

My guess is that he's been throwing it pretty good lately.

I'm not sure if Jacksonville is one of the parks with a visible radar or not but it would be good to get some numbers from tonight's game. The other thing about the gun in Jackson is that I've been told that it's usually off 2 or 3 MPH. If the radar is visible tonight we can see if Ron can tell us some speeds.

The gun in Jackson iis dead on accurate JAXXFAN.. Robert Jones, the operations director, is a former police officer who made sure that radar gun is dead on accurate.

There is a radar gun in Jacksonville and I will let everybody know how hard he is throwing tonight, not that it matters.. If Ryu LOCATES his pitches, it doesn't make a hill of beans how hard he throws it.

I guess it was before new management that the gun was off 2-3 MPH. Thanks for the update.

Aren't those things supposed to be calibrated daily?

heh, we talked about that in evidence today.

there's no way i'd rank ryu over pinto or nolasco...or hil...or gallagher...or marshall. that's a pretty odd comment from BA.
