Can anyone explain to me how Nathan comes in to pitch the ninth with a 5-0 lead and gets credited with a save? :?

the rule is the tying run is on deck when he comes in - so if the bases are loaded, that's a save.

yeah, I actually pulled up the game log after I posted and saw that Santana loaded the bases to start the inning and Nathan came in and struck out three straight to save the game.

Damn fine job.

Wow, what a switch in points with Cordero blowing that save. If he closes the game and gets the save, I likely earn 4.5 points, Eaton would take the loss, so DB would lose 3. Instead, Eaton gets a no-decision and Cordero loses 6.2 points. A 13.5 point swing. Instead of being up 20 on the last day, I'm only up seven.

Ouch!

DB was oh so close to three QS yesterday. if he had gotten just an extra out or two here or given up one less run there, he'd be nursing a small lead going into the final day.

DB needs a disaster start from carpenter today.

Fortunately, that doesn't happen very often.

and fortunately, for you, he's pitching against the cubs.

Bloody Cubs. Just when I need them to roll over and play dead, they come alive against the best pitcher in the NL this year.

i hear you...for a while there, the cubs were only playing well when it hurt my team (ie dempster's five save week).

It looks like the fighting nsbb'rs are going to pull it out unless Utley and Howard go completely off and Abreu does nothing. I'm not sure I deserved to win this week, though, and the team is really going to have to pick it up to even be close to Adam in the Championship. Of course, if Pujols starts getting off days and Carpenter keeps pitching like he doesn't care, it's going to be tough.

I've got an interesting decision around the pitching. Bonderman is supposed to be back in the rotation and facing KC & Seattle in week 1. But he hasn't pitched in two weeks and could be pretty rusty. Meanwhile, I've got Cain and Liriano available to stick in the rotation.

I also have to make a decision about my catching & OF situation. Go with Gomes over Damon & Guillen? Find a temp sub for Barrett until his head stops ringing?

Ah, decisions...

Actually, it's too bad we can't switch pitchers after week 1. I'd then be able to put both Cain & Liriano into the rotation to get two starts apiece in week 1, then go back to my vets for week 2. In fact, that would give me 10 starts in week 1, with Burnett, Livan & Bonderman also in line to get two starts apiece in week 1.

Adam might be happy we can't switch after week 1, though. 8)

that would be correct.

the hand sanitizers go into the championship fresh off a statement game....should be near 350 points!

i have some tough decisions too...i released a slumping/platooning gonzalez for delucci. i don't like having three rangers in my lineup, but i also don't like gonzalez playing four times a week.

also, i'm going with a red hot cano (47 points this week) over the more consistent overbay, who may start sitting in favor of fielder as the season winds down.

i hope my ragtag pitching rotation can hang in there for one more week...boy, would i love to have three starts from sheets over the next two weeks.
