nsbb and tootie sit this week out, waiting to see who they play in the second round. and i'm sure tootie is glad that a two start week for prior doesn't mean [expletive]. meanwhile...

in the west, the flyers and the lynx square off...

it looks like lynx only gets five starts, including a few in some not-so-good pitcher's parks. however, he does have five offensive players getting seven game weeks. the flyers have a few guys getting multiple starts, including randy johnson, who is probably the key to this matchup. he also gets a seven game week from d-lee...but he's one of just two offensive guys playing a full week. looks like he's got a couple of potential injury problems, as well.

the hand sanitizers and buddiga face off in the east...

GHS holds a 2-0 season advantage on buddiga, but you can throw that out the window. GHS has eight starts, but most of them will undoubtedly be shitty. anytime you go into the playoffs counting on a starter whose little yellow tab says "O. Hernandez consistently bad" you know you're scraping the bottom of the barrel for SP's. however, the hand sanitizer pen has been fantastic, and the offense can smack some homers. buddiga has two guys w/ two starts, neither of which is one of his aces (zito, willis). and vazquez's second start is in coors. the griffey injury makes him an iffy play for this week. farnsworth apparently getting the closer's nod in atlanta is a bonus for buddiga.

should be an interesting week!

I think I will end up playing Griffey. He was supposed to get one day off this week as is and the prognosis is for him to be back after sitting today's game. Instead, I decided to sit S. Stewart who only has 5 points in the last three weeks and start Payton. Meanwhile, the Cardinals were kind enough to move Suppan up to face the Cubs and Prior, rather than Rusch.

My only remaining decision is whether to play Foulke over Ayala. I guess the only positive with Foulke this season is that he's scored just 59 points - making him an easy keeper.

I have had injury problems all season. I am down to 8 starts now with Armas going down tomorrow. I am droping Armas as he is hurt now, and will be replacing him with Eaton.

Elarton pitched a nice game today in Cleveland's 2-0 win. I am expecting a couple of Rangers to carry me to victory.

hmmm, I have six starts actually. We need to change that rule though - seems silly that one team gets 2 more starts than the other. in the regular season it kind of averages out but in the playoffs thats not really a good test. anyway, sounds like sour grapes.

I replaced Durham who pulled a hammy tonight against LA.

damn...i thought my bullpen was one sure advantage i had this week...but my pen's been outscored 18 to -1 or so after two days...ouch. wagner picked a bad time to suck...

It has been determined that Griffey will not play this week, but he hasn't been put on the DL because he'll play again this season. Is it legal for me to bench him and replace him with S. Stewart (not that he'll score points, but better than nil) ?

Yeah, you can replace him.

yep.

i certainly didn't think arroyo was going to get you a QS after the first couple innings. i knew dontrelle was going to be tough in rfk...i'm just glad he didn't throw a shutout.

i said before this week started that my brewers would be key going against shitty pitchers in a great hitter's park...though they only combined for one homer, they put up a combined 30+ points so far this week. i'd be in trouble w/o them. by the way, overbay is like 23-43 w/ 7 hrs against the reds this year...

screw you, david bell, you worthless piece of [expletive].

how's that for a swing...a perfect inning and a save from wagner turns into two hits allowed, a loss, a blown save AND a three run homer for biggio.

edit: had bell made the play, i would have been +4.5...w/ the error and what followed, i went -5.25 and buddiga went +8 (for biggio's homer). one play = 18+ point swing. damn, damn, damn!

QS Willis

QS Arroyo

SV Dempster

My pitching is saving me right now, but I'm not going to win the week without some production offensively!

you're 4-4 on QS so far, which is nothing new. i'm a damn magnet for QS...i've had a couple of weeks of giving up 5+ QS. your pen has been awesome...mine has sucked, even w/ the gift win for street today.

wagner has three losses on the year...two in the last two days.

we each have three starts left.

me: vargas, el duque, johnson

you: zito, vazquez, suppan

advantage: you.

if i can somehow match you in QS the rest of the way, i like my chances. my pen is bound for a couple points before this week's over. philly was stupid to use wagner when they were behind by a couple the other night...then he throws a ton of pitches over the next two days and gets hung w/ two losses.

Both teams have a very good shot at 300+ pts. 3 starts remain for both staffs. Zito was pushed back to Sat. at Texas because of right shoulder blade problems and Vasquez is in Colorado. Only Suppan looks to be a good bet for the weekend and that isn't saying much. I may get little help from the pitching on the weekend.

Don't look now, but Budcrew's ticked that they didn't get the playoffs and now are trying to beat NSBB.

I know it's a bye week for NSBB and wouldn't affect Tim's playoffs, but that would be my vindication for not making the playoffs.

and for about the 7th time this year, weaver has a 6 inning QS in the bag only to blow it in the 7th.

weaver (and jim tracy for that matter, since this happens EVERY TIME) and david bell can catch the next bus to hell!!!

now weaver's on the hook for the L. EFFFFF!

i swear, 3/4 of his outings look like -- 6 ip, 5 h, 3 er -- after six, and then -- 6 1/3, 9 h, 5 er -- after seven.

i ain't exactly throwing gibson, koufax and ryan out there either...

Well, Sheffield won't play today and is questionable for the weekend. I would think he'll play in some capacity this weekend considering winning the division probably rides on this series with the Sox.

injuries have really hurt us both this week. my pitching staff is remarkably suckier w/o sheets in there, and you're w/o griffey and now possibly sheffield.

i thought i'd be down by more than 8 when i checked it this morning...

yep, both Willis and Arroyo gave up their fare share of hits, runs, and xbh thus negating much of the 7 pts gained from the QS...
