There are worse managers in the game than Dusty, but these comments make me crazy.

From Cubs.com

"Just because you can hit, doesn't mean you know how to play winning baseball," Baker said in an interview this week. "That's what I'm trying to instill here, and it's not easy to do in the short time I've been here."

Playing fundamental baseball takes disipline. He's been here long enough to "instill" this. He keeps using the past as an excuse for this lack of execution.

"I want to wait for this class. You help build something with a mindset and attitude," Baker said. "I ain't going nowhere."

What has he helped build?? If anything, I believe he's hindered their progression.

I didn't realize it was so difficult to say, "Hey, try to go to the right side with the runner on second and no outs."

Seriously, nearly the entire roster has been turned over since his arrival. We know he has input with Hendry. If his players are that lacking, or that unable to learn, who's fault is it, really?

Dusty needs to shut up in the worst way.

Wouldn't it be nice to hear Dusty take some of the blame. He keeps making excuses. It seems to me that great managers take responsibility for the teams failings instead of finding someone else to take the fall. If it's not the media, then its because of injuries, then it's the broadcasters, then it's fans, back to the media, and now it's because the players apparently refuse to learn fundamentals.

If I'm Hendry I have to wonder why the players aren't listening.

If Dusty were to take the blame for this team not succeeding, he'd basically have to admit he's wrong. And I honestly believe Dusty doesn't think he's done anything wrong since he's been here.

You've summed it up perfectly. Everytime I hear Dusty speaks he reminds me of some students I have. I will be looking right at them as they are talking and not doing their work. I'll say, "Stop talking," and they will look back and as serious as can me respond, "I'm not talking," right after I've stood there and watched and listened to them.

What's a shame is my students are ages 11-13, and how old is Dusty?

What is shutting up in the worst way? You saying he needs to be whacked?

It's a mistake the first time it happens (this is generous...fundamentals...major leagues...hmm). After that, the blame is all on Dusty and the player who goofed up...Dusty for not properly stressing what needs to be stressed and the player for not executing.

doesn't it seem strange that in the interview Dusty give Roger Craig credit for

telling him to never assume, then says you can't teach until after a mistake is made?
