The other day I went into a Subway and noticed that there was a tip jar by the register. I was wondering how people felt about tipping at a place like Subway

I may throw my leftover change in there.... I don't mind, really. Working with customers all day long is a tough job, and they don't make a heck of a lot.

I find that people who work with customers usually make the best customers. I try to help out any way I can, especially knowing some of the simpering fools that I have to deal with on a daily basis. I know they have it just as bad.

These people don't know anything. They deserve what they're making. They're working at Subway for a reason.

I sincerely hope that you're kidding. Are you like that to everyone in service to you? When you go into the grocery store are you rude to the cashier because "he/she is a moron, and it's thier job to put up with a jerk like me. The Customer is Always right.... blah blah blah bow down and kiss my butt!" A lot of those kids are in high school or college.

If you're not kidding, I wish 1 of 2 things for you...

1) A visit from Modzilla. And soon.

2) You one day are in such desperate need of a job that you are forced to work at a Subway/Wal-Mart/McDonalds, and that every customer you have views you the way you view the people who work at Subway.

BTW, I have a college education and I work at Wal-Mart. Some of us need money for things like rent and food. Is it my ideal job? No, but there was nothing else available and I need work.

I hate having to serve people like you..... the people who think I'm an idiot just because I'm in service to them. Just remember, never tick off anyone who handles your food or your money.

And please, enlighten me. What is this "reason" they're working at Subway? Maybe it's because they enjoy serving jerks who think that they're better? Maybe because they like hearing screaming bratty children all day. I know, it's because they love getting yelled at and cleaning up messes all day for very little pay. Surely it must be that, and not because they're working themselves through college, or saving, or taking up a 2nd job because times are tough, or even trying to support a family. It can't be any of THOSE reasons.

Mods, forgive me. He hit a nerve.

I've had to deal w/ people as well, all right. For about a week, I worked w/ IllinoisPIRG, canvassing door-to-door. Some people shut the door in my face, others are like I don't know, some worked w/ me the whole way, and some were pissed at the whole thing. I give them a rap, negotiate contributions, give them info, ask them to sign a postcard, and then ask them a quick survey all contributors are asked. It was [expletive]. I quit after a week, b/c all the walking wasn't good for my leg.

Tipping at a fast food restaurant? That's a joke, right? Does anyone really do that? And if you do, then naturally I'll assume that you slip the fry guy at McDonald's an extra buck for each visit.

Work in sales like me, where your job is to kiss the customer's ass at every turn. Because you know what? I don't make jack if I don't make a a sale.

Perhaps that would make your view a little more enlightened on the service world.

Uhm, no one ever tipped me when I worked fast food as a teenager, so I'm not about to do it for them.

Besides, it's not a hard job.

Hi Mr. Pink!

Originally, I was going to reference Mr. Pink. I also considered a reference to Scottie "no tippin'" Pippen- a notorious cheapskate.
