Of course, we would still have money left over. If we really splurged and kept Nomar and went after Damon, we'd have to be world-series favorites.

Damon

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Ramirez

Garciaparra

Murton

Barrett

Zambrano

Prior

Burnett

Wood

Maddux

Looks like an all-star team.

Not enough balance. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

No way will Tribune take on Manny's contract. Damon is a lead-off hitter, but he still can hit 20-25 HR's. Look what our 2004 team did. 4 guys w/ 30+ HR's and we didn't make the playoffs. Wood's health will determine everything, IMO.

No balance?

High OBP% down the board, speed at the top, power in the middle, patience at the bottom.

The four guys in '04 were hurt badly by Sammy in the middle, and no OBP% at the top.

To each his own, but I'd take that team over the Cardinals.

I don't think 4 guys hitting 30+ HRs had anything to do with why the Cubs didn't make the playoffs. They didn't make the playoffs because they had nobody on base when they hit those homeruns, and one of those guys could only hit HRs and couldn't get on base.

I wish we would trade both Neifi and Macias for Chone Figgins - seriously Dusty would probably wet himself if he had a super utility man like Figgins.

Dusty " The dude can do it all man - he's a veteran guy - I got him playing both left and short today - couldn't decide where to play him. Besides it keeps me from having to put those young guys in situations.....you know man"

it's very hard to factor in trades. free agents you know who is available but for a trade to takes two to tango. if i could could i'd trade for manny, sheffield, micheal young, clemens, rivera, smoltz and pudge rod. but who knows who is really on the market? i think manram would be but it would probably take aram to get him....i don't see dropping him for prospects even high ones, expecially if they win again!

zito may be around but i don't any hitters(maybe murton, they don't need cedeno) that we have, who fit in billyball. and our young pitchers are not on anyone's hotlist anymore.

if we are going to tarde for help we need someone who may take achance on patterson because he is young and not real expensive...he could be worth a gamble for his potential. or we need to find someone who needs a shortstop(if we sign furcal) or is willing to drop expensive or soon to be expensive players for prospects/pitching prospects(like choi for lee) tampa,kc or maybe florida might be a place. the real problem is the only value we have is in players we need...murton,hill,cedeno,pie...the others are years away or have real questions about them..patterson,mirtre,wuertz,wellmeyer,guzman, sing,dopriak..

we no longer have much value in our prospects.

My wish list:

I'd like to see them go cheap at SS and LF to build up this bench...

Starting Line-up:

1)Sign Giles....(FA)

2)Trade for Mench to play RF and occasionally CF, that includes using Hill, Williams, Guzman etc to get him.

3)Start Murton in LF

4)Start Cedeno at SS (+12mil)

Lineup:

Walker-2B

Murton-LF

Lee-1B

Giles-CF

Ramirez-3B

Mench-RF

Barrett-C

Cedeno-SS

Bench:

Sign Cruz JR as the 4th OF'er

Saenz (best RH'ed bat off the bench and can play 3B when Ramirez gets injured and give Lee a day off at 1B)

O. Palmiero as the 5th OF'er (LH'ed bat off the bench),

Chris Gomez-utility player can play 2B, SS, 3B.

Chris Woodward-another utility play who can play all the IF positions.

(+6 mil max.)

Blanco

Pitchers:

Z

Prior

Wood

Maddux

Millwood (FA) (+6)

Bullpen

BJ Ryan (FA-CL)

Dempster

Sauerbeck (FA-LOOGY)

Ohman (2nd LH'er)

Van Buren (sit. RH'er)

Rusch/Williams/etc. long-relief. (+10)

+34 mil,

Then factor 10mil for Sosa, 5 mil for Hawkins, 5 for Burnitz, 4 for Remlinger, 2 mil for JoBo, 8 for Nomar, Perez and Macias (just under 2mil). (-36 mil)

giving dusty a good bench is begging for disaster, but giving him a bad bench is probably worse. the best bet is to give him a young bench. giving dusty promising rookies who are intended to start and then a veteran bench is like giving a toddler an XBOX 360, the kid will just end up playing with the paper you wrapped it in and pooping on the video game.

Give any manager a young bench and for those young players to come up thru the pipeline, they have to project as utility players for them not to be mismanaged by a veteran fetish. I think Cedeno and Murton have shown to be a viable option as starters if proper resources are allocated around other holes in the lineup.

If you gave Dusty a young bench, at least 1/2 should likely be starting by the halfway point assuming the Cubs aren't the Yankees and have 8 position players making more than Walker next year (2.5).

I haven't seen him talked about in awhile but I wouldn't mind seeing Dotel brought in under a similar deal to what Dempster and Williamson got over the past 2 years. Dotel would be a FA this off-season despite having TJ surgery?

Octavio Dotel: signed deal for 2005 season worth 4.75M on 1/18/05 Agent: Danny Horwits Service Time: 5.113

He's protected for one more year by Oakland. If the A's tender him a contract, he'll be back, otherwise, yes, he's a FA.

At 5.113, he didn't need many days on the active roster to reach his 6th year. He still accrues service time on the DL, so he'll definitely be a FA after this year.

My bad. This guy has the service time starting from the start of the season. Yes, a player is given MLB service every day he is on the active roster, DL, or berevement leave.

Players earn service time for each day spent on the active roster, 15-day DL, 60-day DL, Restricted List, or Bereveament List. A player cannot accumulate more than 172 days of service during a single season. Also, if a player is optioned to the minors and spends 20 days or less in the minors, the days he spent in the Minors count as Major League service, thus giving the player a full year of service. Players also gain service time during a suspension handed out by either a team or the Commissioner's Office, and also if the player is on the Active Military Duty List.
