I noticed its "Jump" by Van Halen when the Cubs take the field. I haven't really paid attention to this in past years. Has this always been their song or what??

Maybe it has something to do with the 13 or 14 teams ahead of them in the Wild Card standings.

Yeah, Shoulders complained about it earlier in the season, asking for a new song. There was a thread about it when it happened.

Todd Weleymer made an issue of this in May:

Before every home Cubs game since 1984, the song "Jump" by Van Halen has been played. Cubs pitcher Todd Wellemeyer made an off-hand remark that perhaps it's time for the team to change, and has apparently heard from fans with suggestions.
