Maybe I'm missing it, but I've seen no discussion of the guy we got for Lawton...whats the word on him...is he worth anything at all or was getting rid of lawton's salary the biggest benifit of that trade?

Dubois for Gerut for Lawton for Berg.

Hendry sure took the roundabout way of getting this guy.

Perhaps this was the master plan all along.

That would be funny if he ends up being a quality ML pitcher and Hendry ends up looking like a genius.

So he's an A level starter....Thanks...that's quite a bit more than I knew 10 min ago...It'd be nice if he projected to a 1/2 way decent player or could be traded for one.

BA's report:

The Yankees drafted the 21-year-old Berg in the 43rd round out of Indian Hills (Iowa) CC in 2003 and signed him as a draft-and-follow after he spent a year at Triton (Ill.) JC. His best pitch is a low-90s sinker that he delivers from a low three-quarters arm slot. He also has a decent slider and is working on a changeup. In 15 games (nine starts) at Staten Island, Berg went 6-2, 3.53 with a 52-20 strikeout-walk ratio in 59 innings. Opponents hit .226 with three homers against him.

He's had his best success as a starter so far this season, where he can induce a ton of groundballs outs and keep the ball in the park.

Considering the trade for Bartosh, I doubt it.

No, he won't. Angel Guzman will start with Berg piggybacking in Beloit tomorrow. This will happen again on Sunday in Peoria.

That's what I thought? Guzman in the first game, Berg in the second? I could be wrong...........

No, there will be just one game tomorrow in Beloit. Guzman and Berg will be piggybacking.

Now that Gallagher was promoted to Daytona (which was announced after the posts above), the Peoria Chiefs had to shuffle the upcoming pitching plans. Gallagher had been due to make his last regular season start for Peoria on Friday. Nathan Baliva posted this in the minor leagues forum regarding the starting pitching setup for Peoria:

Berg will not pitch Tuesday. With Gallagher's promotion we are now a starter short so the game plan is as follows (as of now anyway)

Tues: Guzman 60-70 pitches

Wed: Berg 75 pitches

Thurs: Johnson (pushed back 1 day)

Fri: Estrada (ditto)

Sat: Billek (normal day)

Who follows on Tues & Wed is anyones guess at this point.

That is not a fair assessment. The trade for Lawton had no future plan - it was a rental push for the post-season that didn't work out.

The fact that the Cubs have anything to show for Lawton is just a bonus. This is why I was not in favor of the trade for Lawton to begin with. I want Gerut back.
