Nolasco has done a nice job at West Tenn this year and, unlike so many other Cubs pitching prospects, has not succumbed to a serious injury. He has three pitches, which seems to make him a good starting prospect.

Nolasco seems like a great back-of-the-rotation pitcher who can give a team innings. Should the Cubs groom him for a spot in the 2007 major league rotation or use him for trade bait for other needs?

He'll need to be protected on the 40-man (last offseason, he was left unprotected) this offseason. The change has come a long way, this season, which has helped him a lot. I think he could be a darkhorse candidate for '06 and should be ready by midseason next year, if the Cubs are interested in Ricky in the rotation.

It all depends on whether or not he can finally master AAA. He's been really good in AA for the past two years, but he absolutely has to prove that he can take on the Pacific Coast League.

I think he can handle AAA with the emergence of his changeup (which he credits for his strong season at AA).

when considering nolasco's success or lack thereof at AAA, keep in mind that he was at boise w/sisco and hagerty. he then skipped low A. the next year he skipped AA. in two years, he went four levels higher. if he was going at the cubs' oft-used 1-level per year promo strat, this year he would be in -- wait for it -- AA.

Wasn't Nolasco a teammate of Mitre's at Purdue, or am I thinking of someone else in our organization? Regardless, I like how both Nolasco and Pinto have bounced back this year at AA after struggling the first time they were promoted to AAA. I think both have ML futures, but need to show the organization they can succeed at AAA for an extended time before they can be considered legitimate contributors in Chicago.

Both need to be protected on the 40-man, obviously, with hopes that in 2007 they will be ready.

Blasko is the one who went to Purdue I believe.

Yes, it was Blasko. Nolasco signed with the Cubs right out of high school.
