So we traded Jason Dubois.................. for a Yankee prospect? Youch.

As for trading Walker, that would be one of the dumbest moves yet. The Cubs have an option on him for what, 2.5 million next season? Unless they come away with a PHENOMENAL trade, then Walker shouldn't go anywhere. Burnitz, sure, dump him. His option is a bit high if I recall, so I don't see him fitting in next year. Might as well get something for him.

Dubois will be a career minor leaguer, nothing else.

Regardless of what you think of his potential, the fact is that Hendry essentially acquired Matt Lawton - a guy who was having a very good year before coming to Chicago - for Dubois. If I would have told you at the beginning of the year, or even during Dubois's worst stretch, that all we could get for him would be a low level pitching prospect from the Yankees, you would have laughed at me.

Normally when people make statements as fact, they try and back that up with some sort of rationale, logic, statistics, etc.

pfft. No way.

I also see DuBois as the classic "AAAA" guy, mainly due to his poor D combined with his apparent inability to hit any major league pitch other than medium-speed fastballs and sliders that don't break. Just my two cents.

That said, he's probably worth more than the Single A pitcher we got for him.

So was McClain already on the 40-man, or is he yet another guy taking a spot that JVB could have?

McClain was not on the 40 man. He took Lawton's spot. I don't think the organization shares your opinion of JVB.

Neither do I. I think that JVB is another "smoke and mirrors" type of pitcher like JoBo and many a japanese pitcher was. He is the type to rely on deception and movement to get him by and if either of those things go by the wayside then he is very hittable.

"Statistics are for losers.", M. Ditka

BTW:

Lawton batted 8th and played RF today. He had a hit, a walk, a strikeout and a run scored.

Isn't that about what he did for the Cubs over the past 3 1/2 weeks?

well, deception and movement are what make a pitcher fool hitters, along with changing speeds and command. 2 out of 4 ain't bad. that said, i haven't seen much of JVB, so i have no clue what he is capable of...just saying that deception and movement count for a lot.
