Bring that Mitre guy up, please:

9 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 4 strikeouts, 0 walks, 19 groundballs, 4 flyballs

Hopefully either he or Rich Hill will start in Rusch's spot next week.

That's awesome.

Just make sure we can hear you next time!!! :D

Trust me, you all will go nuts the night of the broadcast. The time we were on the air was quality broadcasting, ha ha

With all the hoopla, it seems no one picked up on an interesting tidbit from the Iowa game...Murton played some CF. This might be the Cubs way of making him a more valuable 4th OF next year, or have better offensive value as a OBP guy in CF rather than LF/RF.

Good catch. Has Murton played CF before?

Boise with a sweet 1-0 win over Spokane.

Any thoughts on Johnny Defendis?

And don't forget, the West Tenn game is a must-listen-to broadcast. :D
Oops, I meant to say it's a can't-listen-to broadcast.

Minimal power, minimal walks, from a 21 year old not yet to Low A. Meh.

I wonder what caused the shift from Murton, he only played 2-3 innings there tonight.

Had you come to Jackson you could've listened live in the booth.

Haven't seen it this year, and don't recall it much if at all last year either. I'm pretty sure he's been mainly LF...has played RF and now CF in AAA.

CUBS, METS SPLIT FRIDAY NIGHT TWIN BILL

Pitching Took Center Stage As Both Lineups Were Quieted Throughout Both Ends of the Double-Dip

By Bo Fulginiti

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla—With both teams fighting for their playoff lives Friday night, the Daytona Cubs and St. Lucie Mets relied on the one thing that usually is the trademark of a championship club…pitching.

In a pair of seven-inning games at Tradition Park following the aftermath of Tropical Storm Katrina that reached landfall Thursday, the Cubs and Mets zipped right through both contests on the strength of their starters.

Mets righty Tim Worthington (6-4) led the way to a 3-1 Game 1 win that last just one hour and 28 minutes and Cubs right-hander Juan Mateo (10-5) followed up with a complete game effort to guide Daytona to the Game 2 victory by a final of 2-0.

In the first contest, Worthington went the distance for all seven frames and gave up just one run on two hits as he stuck out five to notch his sixth win of the season.

Cubs starter Yorkin Ferreras (3-4) took the loss after giving up three earned runs on six hits, despite settling down to strike out nine after surrendering all three runs in the first frame.

Juan Mateo seemed determined to carry the momentum from Ferreras into the backend of the double-dip, and the righty finished what he started in Game 2 as he gave up just two hits in a complete game shutout performance, while he struck out nine and lowered his ERA to 3.19.

Outfielder Jeff Culpepper was the only Daytona Cub to record a hit in both games, as he finished the double-header 2-for-5 with a double.

With the double-dip split, the Cubs are now 29-31 as the Mets advanced to 32-29 on the second half. Daytona will wrap up the six-game road trip on Saturday as they send lefty J.R. Mathes (9-8, 4.74 ERA) to the hill to make the start in the series finale.

First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. EST.

is Murton back with the big league team now that Lawton is rumored to be traded?
I don't think he can be called up yet. I believe a player must remain down for at least 10 days after being sent down (unless the rosters expand before then). There is an exception that a player can be called up before 10 days to replace an injured player, but I don't know if that extends to replacing a traded player. My guess would be that Grieve comes up now and Murton returns when the rosters expand on Sept. 1.

Well DJaxx, sorry about your lack of national pub on your broadcast and it being shortened, but the practice will make you perfect for next time!

This situation is kinda funny to me because of this radio show on ESPN Radio 710 here in so cal today (Mason/Ireland - Big Show - commonly called the BS show by the hosts, good show too). Apparently the hosts were being featured at the local A club (Rancho Cucomongo Quakes) and one got to sing the anthem. Apparently this host (Mason) prerecorded it and lipsynched the anthem. He hid it from everyone but the sound guy at the stadium and no one knew. He got called out on the air and it became this big scandal all day. Funny stuff. They kept questioning his whole career later.

Maybe this "rainout" is all a cover for DJaxx to get another shot! :P

I talked to DJAXXFAN before the game and he was a little nervous as you would imagine. His mom and dad was with him. I told him just to have fun doing the broadcast and he would do fine. Ron would make him feel right at home. I listened to the game on my radio and I did not detect any nervousness at all. However, he did not get to do any play by play before the game was canceled. Quiet an acheivement. It is amazing to me how many fans across the country are looking forward to this. There certainly is a bond between Cub fans everywhere. And it is not just the DJaxx but all of the minor league teams. I know DJAXXFAN appreciates all of the support that the NSBB posters have given him.

Neither of us were right. Die Hard was called up. Makes sense; the Cubs need a 3B more than an OF.

In that short of an amount of time I learned so much! Hopefully the rain will stay away Monday!

It was great to see you again last night! Yes, I was nervous, extremely nervous! The nerves ended really fast once the game got started. It is wild just how much information a person has to be able to process at one time! I have a whole new respect for the guys that do it full time and do such a great job!
