i would like to see the cubs go after wilkerson to play cf next year and move patterson to right. if he wasnt hitting leadoff, i think he could go back to being a .275 35 hr guy.

I don't think that hitting leadoff has affected his numbers much. However, hitting in the monstrosity called RFK (where balls simply do not carry) certainly has.

As much as I love Wikerson though, I simply do not see the Nationals trading him.

Patterson cannot hit enough to be an ML corner outfielder

What do you mean Furcal is a huge reason for Atlanta's success - they're letting him go. Usually Atlanta isn't wrong. Oh, and Furcal is a drunk.

Altanta can let him go because they have a guy more than capable to replace him. Betemit is more than capable, infact this year in over 200 ABs he is outperforming ANY Furcal season. Having 2 position starters with 6+ years of service, one abri eligible, and the rest pre arbi eligible...thats how Atlanta wins. Ohh and I hear they have a pretty good pitching coach too.

Here's a scenario: Boston wins the AL East and the Yanks don't even make the playoffs. I could see George going crazy. They have coffers of cash, but with the weak FA market, it won't do much good. They are limited by a weak farm system and huge contracts on the big club. Just a hunch on my part, but I think Arod is attainable. No reason to go into details on a trade, but we have the talent and the cash. One move and it completly changes the dynamics of this team.

...

Looking at the FA market and our Farm System, what could you do with:

1.

2. 2B Nomar/Walker

3. 1B Lee

4. SS Arod

5. 3B Aram

6.

7.

8. C Barrett

With this infield, we don't need Manny or Giles in the OF. High OBP guys and top of the order hitters will be much easier to find in the OF this offseason. We could afford to take a shot with guys like Pie and Murton. Pie may not be ready, but he'd be playing CF right now if in Tampa or KC.

Anyway, just my two cents. What could you guys do with this scenario?

A couple years ago, I wanted the Cubs to make a Wood for A-Rod deal for A-Rod to play short; but, now I wonder if A-Rod can actually return to short after 2 years at third. A-Rod has gone up in wieght from 190 when he came over to Texas to 225 today with the Yankees. At 6'3" and 225, he doesn't appear to have the same mobility that he used to in the field.

I'm probably in the minority, here, but I don't want Furcal. I don't really want to overpay someone millions for a .753 career OPS just because he plays short.

Basically, if you spend $6 MM on a shortstop, and get a .753 OPS hitter, you can get a much higher OPS out of $6MM by getting a corner outfielder. I would much rather spend big bucks at both right and left (or trading for corner outfielders who make bigger bucks) who will give us a .825 or higher OPS and letting Cedeno man short than I would on spending big bucks on a shortstop who WON'T post an .800 OPS and one corner outfielder and letting murton handle left.

At elast by spending on outfielders, we KNOW we can get two solid hitters, whereas spennding it on Furcal we're taking a chance on both short and a corner spot (i.e. can Murton handle it?)
