Obviously, the person who should really be starting over Patterson is Hairston, but, this is how bad Corey has done this month, look at these lines

Corey .222/.255/.356/.611

Macias .296/.310/.333/.643

No offense to Macias, he's playing as a better 25th man than I ever gave him credit for, but when Jose freaking Macias DESERVES playing time above you on the depth chart, you're being absolutely pathetic.

So seriously, any start in center you don't give to Hairston, give it to Jose or anyone else. Let Corey get splinters....

The problem with that strategy is, if Corey continues to struggle, teams will see that he's not worth it. While we want him to play to prove he's worth a trade, he can very easily prove he's NOT worth a trade. He's playing himself out of every other team's line up by struggling.

Not really. When your value is at its lowest, it can't get any lower. Teams already have appeared to lack interest in Corey, so his value can only improve with a red hot comeback.

Patterson needs to start every game the rest of the year and keep him in the 7th or 8th spot to offer him some stability.

The season is over....what do the Cubs or Patterson benefit if you bench him the rest of the year? Best case scenario, he finds a comfort zone and finishes the last month or so on a positive note coming into next year.

at last, a corey patterson thread

I know! It's as if he was playing for the Cubs or something!

it's also as if there's opinions on corey that haven't been expressed already 1000s of times! i'm dying to hear the many reasons why corey sucks.

I know, if I see another thread on why the 2005 Cubs have struggled, I'm going to pull my hair out!

I think Patterson's range and defense make up for the advantage Macais has in his paper thin numbers.

Onion paper, at that.

I haven't heard of this Patterson chap before. Perhaps one of you could fill me in.

Once upon a time there was a diminutive man named Donald. He liked to play baseball. He was mighty fast.

One day, while playing baseball, he was spotted by three bears. Cubs, actually.

When spring came, the Cubs invited Donald to play with them. Donald agreed, but said he would only do so if the Cubs called him Corey.

Everyone was happy.

The end.

Exactly....but at the very latest that's the June '03 version.
