Brandon Sing walks again in his first AB of Game 2

And his second AB too... there's no way he ever plays for the Cubs; 161 walks in his last 236 games of minor league ball is completely unacceptible to the current Wrigley regime. Dusty would make fun of him for walking too much.

I can totally envision how his major league career would play out if, by some miracle, Dusty ever gave him a chance to play regularly. He would start out walking a lot, and then Dusty would start poking fun at him for not being aggressive enough, or even tell him to be more aggressive or he'd get benched. So, being a young impressionable player trying to do anything to make his manager happy, Sing would start hacking at everything, his walks would go way down, his average would drop like a rock, and he'd turn back into the hitter he was during his first couple of seasons in the minors. Then the Cubs would deem him a flop and farm him out to Iowa. Man, that just makes me depressed.

You skipped the part where he gets traded for Jody Gerut. Oh wait, you were talking about Sing. Hmm.

Runners moving on the pitch keeps the Jaxx out of a DP on the grounder.

Aaron Sisk up, runners on 2nd & 3rd, two outs

Big win, the Jaxx pull to within 1 game of the Mudcats!

Pardon me for being dense, but why does it matter? The DJaxx won the first half of the season, if I remember correctly... if they're already in the playoffs, what does the overall record matter? Is it for home-field advantage? And if so, considering that nobody goes to games in Jackson, does home-field really matter?

I believe it's 1 extra home game, and the almight bragging rights!

The Jaxx currently host games 1 & 2 in Jackson and games 3-5 are scheduled for Zebulon. If the Jaxx win the second half, they get to host game 3 in Jackson, giving them a possibility to not have to travel 11 hours to Zebulon. I think they will have several for the playoff games. In fact, I just received my complimentary ticket vouchers this past week for game 2 of the playoffs!

FERRERAS ANSWERS THE CALL IN 5-1 CUBS WIN

The Daytona Southpaw Won His Second Straight As He Held the Potent St. Lucie Attack to Just Three Hits

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—It’s starting to seem like Yorkin Ferreras’ (3-3) ship has finally arrived in Daytona Beach.

After being demoted from West Tenn back to the Florida State League in late June, Ferreras was moved from the bullpen into the starting rotation and the Cubs are finally reaping the benefits.

On Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, Ferreras turned in his second consecutive shutout performance in Game 2 against the St. Lucie Mets, as he logged six full innings, gave up just three hits and struck out six to carry the Cubs to the 5-1 victory.

The Mets scored their only run on a throwing error from Ferreras in the fourth when the southpaw air-mailed a pickoff attempt to first base scoring Dante Brinkley, but St. Lucie couldn’t touch the Cubs lefty after that.

St. Lucie right fielder Jamar Hill was the only Met to record a multi-hit effort, as he went 2-for-4 with a triple but was left stranded after Ferreras refused to relinquish his unblemished ledger.

Daytona also picked their own spots at the plate, as three Cubs logged multiple-hit efforts including second baseman Robinson Chirinos who went 2-for-4 with a solo homerun off of Mets starter Tim Worthington (5-4) to set the tone.

Following his dominant performance, Ferreras has now won in back-to-back starts and has pitched 12 consecutive innings of shutout ball while striking out 12 total batters in those two appearances.

Cubs lefty reliever Paul Shappert also made a notable appearance on Saturday, as he logged a save the old-fasioned way with three scoreless frames to seal the deal and lower his ERA to 0.96.

With the victory the Cubs evened the series at 1-1 with the final game of the home stand set for Sunday evening at “The Jack.” Daytona righty Juan Mateo (8-5, 3.61 ERA) will get the nod as he squares off against Mets righty Ivan Maldanado (4-4, 5.37 ERA).

First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. EST.

Vancouver crushed Boise, 12-1. Hagerty pitched 1/3 of an inning for Boise, giving up one hit, two walks, three runs (all earned), and three wild pitches. His ERA is now up to 29.84.
