Do whatever it takes to get Matsui, and a bonafide Starting Pitcher.

The rotation is missing Wood, and at this point he's not reliable. I'd say Maddux is our number 5 starter, and if we bring in a bonafide horse slotted third or fourth in the rotation, we make the playoffs.

Do you mean in the offseason? Cause I'm pretty sure there's no way a 3rd starter and HIdeki Matsui are getting through waivers anytime soon.

It would take a lot to pry Matsui from the Yankees - aside from his hitting abilities he's a great marketing tool for the Yankees.

If Dusty remains as manager, obtaining a quality veteran starting pitcher is a necessity.

I don't care if we have to overpay, sign AJ Burnett. Hendry refused to overpay this offseason and he gave us Jeromy Burnitz.

How was not overpaying this past offseason a bad thing? Do you really wish we had Beltran and that contract?

Not in that instance, but I don't think Hendry has it in him to get a big name free agent. He can only say that FA's were going for to much and hand us the Burnitz's of the world so long.

We NEED Burnett and we NEED Matsui.

If theres a little chance of getting Matsui, we gotta do it.

This team just needs a big time FA, that is a contact/average hitter. I don't care about homers/power so much. I just want a clutch machine.

problem is unless it has changed Matsui has always wanted to be a Yankee all his life. Thats something we cannot offer him. The Yanks will be able to keep him as long as they want him based on that. That and his Japanese Marketability.

I care about homers & power, but I think with Lee and A-Ram, that side of it is covered for a couple of years. Patterson, too, if his performance is satisfactory (I've only seen a few ABs since he came back up, I was mildly impressed, but not blown away) has power in there, too.

So, yes, the good average hitter would be nice. Drive round a few runners and then be on base when the big boys come up. Its nothing new for the Cubs this year to be thought short of that.

There is no chance that the Yankees are dealing Matsui. I think there is a greater chance they would deal A-Rod; but then you have to eat a substantial portion ofhis deal.

What about Wood and a single-A prospect (Dope?) for A-Rod (forget Wood's no-trade for a minute), w/ the Yanks picking up 25% of A-Rod's remaining K. A-Rod goes to short and we let Nomar walk away. That would be a pretty imposing IF.

Wow. If Hendry ever pants'd another GM that bad, they'd immediately start work on his plaque in the GM wing of the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, he'd have to retire, since no other team would ever make a trade with him again.

Well Matsui seems to be a FA at the end of this season.

I just don't want to see another power hitter on this team. Nobody's on base as it is, and nobody can take a walk as it is. This team needs a Giles, or a Matsui.

Every Yankees game I watch, Matsui does something that stands out. He walks alot, he takes alot of pitches, and in clutch game winning situations he comes through.

What do you think Matsui is? I'll take hitters who can walk AND slug. I believe you can have both.

You'll never see Matsui go to the plate trying to swing hard for the fences.

The guy always makes solid contact someplace. With RISP, hes gold.

He'll hit homers sure, but its a result of his contact, not his hard pre-planned swinging ala Sosa/Burnitz.

I'm not sure it that's crazy an idea (the A-Rod thing), but then what do I know.

I would agree that it might cost more than Wood and Dope. But even if itcost Wood, Dope and Rich Hill, I'd still do it.

Am I missing something here?

Its just that while I don't think a healthy Wood and Dope gets you A-rod, I also don't think the suggestion was preposterous. Nor do I think that it would get Hendry into the hall of fame. That it would make Hendry look evil or make GM's beware of him is also something that I firmly do not think. Add to the list of things I fail to believe the idea that "nobody's" post was humorous or his degradation of another poster's idea was acceptable.

In summary, I found the post "way off base, and not amusing"

...just me, I suppose.

Wow again. Sorry, Officer.

Wasn't meant to be rude or degrading to RynoRules, and is he (she?) took it that way, my apologies. But there's not a GM in any league, major leagues to fantasy leagues, who would make that trade.

Just you, indeed.

Not policing just defending.

Back to the point: This isn't a gm we're talking about, its Steinbrenner. A healthy wood would look good to the yanks. Wood, Dope, Rusch, and the chance to sign Nomar might look good to Georgie boy. But if Wood and Nomar are healthy, I'd rather keep them and save the dough.

I thought your response was abrupt and belittling, but since I try not to reply to personal attacks (as I believe to do so only encourages more of them), I chose not to flame back at you.

That said, I think Big Stein's thirs for headlines and the Yankees' desperation for pitching could help such a deal along. Moreover, it frees up salary for them to pursue another pitcher, such as Burnett. So the deal for all intents and purposes would be:

Wood, Burnett, Hill, and Dope for A Rod and some cash. That's not too shabby if you are the Yankees, IMHO.

Abrupt and belittling?

Well, for what its worth, I didn't read it as any kind of personal attack on you, as insulting to you or disparaging to Hendry. Any time "pantsing" is suggested between GMs in a post, I don't generally take it very seriously.
