What's the over-under on his contract? Would he get 5 million for a year or am I way off base?

I'd guess about 2M. Possibly 3M, but not likely. And of course he won't get any more multi-year offers.

In that case, I really think the Royals should offer him 2.5 for a year ... Their attendance is down and nobody in the state of Kansas cares about the team much any more.

What about people in Missouri? That's where they play, after all.

I think he'll get an incentive laden contract with some AL team. I think he'll play next year.

I also think he'll work his a$$ off during the off season to get in shape.

His ego will motivate him to go for 600 and go out looking better than this season.

Some team will be willing to pay him, because they want a popular player, because they think he has some gas left in the tank, or both.

Interesting to hear people say that his ego is the reason he'll hang it up this season - I figure his ego is the reason he'll keep on playing. It's obvious home run milestones are important to him, and with 600 so close I can't see him turning down the opportunity that some team will give him.

I've watched him in about 3 games this season. He still stands a long way from the plate, at the far end of the batter's box. I can't recall another hitter standing so far away.

Sammy's decline can be traced back to the beaning by Salmon Torres. His resulting slump led directly to the corked bat, and it's been a slippery downhill slope ever since.

He's done.

I believe he had a good week immediately following the beaning.....then he took a turn down. If that is the case, you cannot attribute the slump to Torres.

Yup and of course it had nothing to do with Palmeiro candy

So the beaning somehow knocked all the steroids out of Sosa?

Sammy Sosa was already in decline long before 2004 or this year when players were allegedly getting off steroids. Not saying that he was never on steroids but 2001 was his high water mark and since then he has been declining.

Personally I don't think the beaning caused his decline, I think age caused his decline. If you look at his splits he had some monster months after the beaning not just before.

I too have no proof of sterioid usage. Regardless, sterioids alone wouldn't have accounted for his lackluster season. I think Sammy's a confidence player. The booing really seems to get to him. Sure, he was on the decline in his career, but I think the boos really sped up the whole process, imo.
