Hendry should have moved the vets when he had a chance. I'm curious, if Perez and Macias are so valuable why not see what worth they have in the open market? Maybe they can save another team from despair like they did the Cubs.

I agree that Wood should get the surgery done ASAP so he will be ready for 2006.

Interesting that you say that. I have read rumblings from different GMs around the league regarding moving the deadline back to Sept. 1st. The thought being there are still a lot of teams in the race at the current deadline, so there aren't many sellers.

Meh. Don't push the deadline. Eliminate the wild card. Go to four divisions of four teams. Easier scheduling. You actually have to "win" something to reach the playoffs.

The AL should add two teams to get to 16 and doing the same thing. I know, baseball revenues, blah, blah, blah. Put the extra teams in NY and LA and they'd do fine. And hopefully, they'd take enough revenues from the other teams there that it would level the playing field a bit.

That's actually an interesting theory. But if that happened, I could see MLB adding two wildcard spots like football does somewhere down the road. Just a gut feeling though. I'd like to see the divisions evened out though. I think it's ridiculous that the AL West only has four teams in it.

I didn't think I could possibly be more depressed than I was when I went to sleep last night.

I stand corrected.

I am all for this kind of set up as long as the Cubs get dibs on the Pirates being in their division. Nothing like beating up your own AAAA affiliate I always say.

In order for that to happen, doesn't that require the Cubs to actually beat up the Pirates?

Cubs record against the Pirates this year: 8-3

That is the only team that the Cubs are beating up on.

For this year yeah, but what about in past years or future years if they are to remain in the division. If I recall correctly, I believe the W-L is pretty close.

Let Wood pitch in relief and show that he can at least offer something, and then trade him in the offseason. Hopefully 05 is the end of Kerry Wood in Chicago. Get him out of Chicago for something before he leaves in free agency for nothing. Send him, Wade Murton and Patterson to Boston for Manny. Kerry may like the idea of being traded instead of being stuck in the Cub bullpen next year, and killing off his free agency value. Kerry has done nothing to earn a starter's spot ever again. Give it to Hill or Williams.

I'd love to see Wood traded but his value is way too low right now.

That's why they need him in the pen. My hunch is that Boston would like to unload Manny's remaining salary and bad attitude in the offseason. Wood, Murton and Patterson is nice compensation. Boston's one of the few franchises that can absorb Wood's health issues.

Here's a question. The Cubs got Murton from Boston...so either Boston didn't want him or Chicago really did...so, if Boston didn't want him, why would they want him back and if Chicago really wanted him, why would they give him up?

Genuinely curious.

I'm going to start a new thread on this just because it has piqued my interest.

If Manny's dealt, they'll need a left fielder. Something they didn't need a few years ago when Manny couldn't be moved. Perhaps people shouldn't be getting too fired up about Murton since the Great Theo dealt him.

You don't think Wood would waive his no-trade clause to go to Texas?

Yup. No one has ever been traded with a no trade clause. In fact it's so rare that it should eliminate all discussion on this subject.

You think Kerry will consider pitching out of the Cub bullpen in 06 his best option going into free agency. My guess is that his agent will tell him to get out of Chicago asap.

Are you kidding me? Hell no. Why would he go to that hitter friendly park? He's already said he loves Chicago, his house his here, his wife loves it here, and he doesn't want to go to an AL team.

I know he's from Texas, but I wouldn't want to go voluntary pitch in that park especially with the DH teeing off. I think I read that Kerry prefers the NL.

What if the Cubs don't want him anymore?? I'm sure Kerry can afford another house elsewhere.
