I've never had a harder time of watching the Cubs...

As upset as I was, the memory of Game 6 in 03' hurts more. I am driven nearly to tears when its replayed on t.v.

Me too. It's not only the fact that we were so close to the WS, it's the fact that I don't know if we'll ever be that close again(any time soon).

Does anyone else feel completely defeated and lethargic about the Cubs after their miserable showing the last week, yet there is something deep down that will pull you back in and cause you to turn on the games--even when you know you'll likely get disappointed again? I guess that's what it's like to be a Cubs fan.

When you play in an atmosphere where:

1) good play is not rewarded by more playing time especially when you are young

2) the players starting ahead of you are doing a horrible job

3) you're strengths are not being capitalized on

4) your weaknesses are being magnified because you are constantly put in the wrong situations

 

then you would lose the desire to play at 100% everyday for 162 days.

Baseball players are human too.

 

This is the post that I wasn't able to put into words. It seems to exactly describe the Cubs situation. If the players are underachieving, it could be directly related to the atmosphere described above. How can the players be motivated when Dusty is consistently making poor decisions?

The sad thing is that no matter bad this team plays for the rest of the year, I will still be incredibly pumped for next year and believe that we could win it all. Honestly, I thought this really could be the year.....But, now Im looking at two years from now where will hopefully have:

 

A) Healthy Starters with Prior/Z/Wood dominating. If they pitch well, it doesnt really matter who our 4 and 5 starters are.

B) Felix Pie will be ready in 2 years.

C) Corey will be fixed and moved to left field (b/c Pie) and be a 30-30 guy.

D) Cedeno will be our starting SS hitting .280 - .300.

E) Dusty will be gone in favor of the Djaxx manager.

F) If we still have Perez, Macias, and Holla, I actually wont be really that bummed because I think they are really solid players that are just being terribly misused by Dusty.

I doubt I'll really go out of my way (i.e. make a sacrifice) to see another Cubs game this year.

 

Easy for you to say, when tickets first went on sale I got box seats for Stl and Atlanta. I'm really dreading having to go. :(
