I thought the all-knowing Mariotti loved Baker.

Not as of Yesterday:

"Here in a grimy chop shop of a ballpark where Cubs seasons traditionally go to die, it feels like we're in a holding pattern, waiting for big decisions to be made. Hendry has issued his first official vote of confidence to his hand-picked manager, Dusty Baker, which means the Grady Little press conference -- or Joe Girardi press conference, if I get my way -- should happen by Nov. 1."

I'd like to see Girardi managing the Cubs, with a former major league manager (I'm thinking Grady Little) serving as bench coach to help him out.

Joe Girardi has had plenty experience being a winner. He is among the most respected young coaches in the game.

He understands the Cubs fans and press, unlike Baker. Being in New York, he's been around one of the best managers at managing a season and dealing with the press. That's a terrific experience in and of itself.

Joe Girardi has the experience of being a catcher on great pitching staffs. He knows how to communicate with pitchers, knows how to read the reports on other teams players, understands pitch counts, etc... In this respect, Joe has far more experience than a shortstop such as Ozzie Guillen would.

If we hire someone else because of "managerial experience", generally we are looking at someone who was run out of town somewhere else. So much for that experience.

What does Mark Prior picking his nose have to do with anything?

What does Mark Prior picking his nose have to do with anything?

Or Jon Lieber digging a sunflower seed shell out of his teeth with his tongue?

For what its worth I remember hearing Steve Stone and others, over the years, commenting on what a great manager Girardi would make one day. It's enough for me. Baker proves almost daily he's a moron put the San Diego Chicken in there, he can't be any worse.

"Pulling a Baker" = suddenly remebering your starters need the occasional day off and then deciding it would be a good idea to rest them all on the same day; as a result fielding a lineup that a little league team from the Outer Rim of Borneo could beat.

I thought it was reminding us of the good ol days of Don Baylor... or even digging up the ol' Juan Cruz debate to distract us.
