Never. I despise Dusty Baker with just about every bone in my body, but I'm not one to sell out my team.
Not selling out, but I need a team to 'adopt' in the AL anyway. I'd root Cubs against A's any day.

Ditto, but I've like the A's for awhile now. Not just picking them up since the Cubs suck.

The longer this goes on, the louder my cries for a Dusty removeable will get.

Sadly the louder they get, I'm afraid the ears (in Cubs management) still don't care.

That may be true, but sometimes a disgruntled fan base can make some noise.

Hopefully, Dusty will be booed at this year's Cubs Convention.

Hopefully, Dusty won't be the manager in January.

Let's hope, but it could really come to that really shortly. I can totally see them start to boo Baker.

I can see it already, Grissom gets plugged into CF and plays nearly every day the rest of the way. He manages to hit around .270 and plays average defense. This offseason, he's signed to a one year contract to serve as a back up OF. He'll miraculously find his way into the starting lineup in '06 for no good reason.

If Grissom produces even semi-decent results it is a metaphysical certainty that Baker will lobby to keep him for 2006. Baker said he actually asked Hendry to keep Simon and Karros for 2004, and of course we know he wanted Neifi, Holla, and Macias back for 2005.

Yep. Giving Dusty Grissom is like giving a drug addict some heroin.

If we get him, let's make sure either him, Dusty or both are long gone this offseason.

why not? if you aren't going to play pie or murton...why not see of he can play. we wouldn't have to pay him jack. we obviously need of and lead off help. he porbably isn't the answer but neither is hairston or macias. give him a six week tryout

There are some many reasons why not. He is a very bad baseball player. Here's his line for the 2005 season.

.212/.248/.285/.533

I think that line says enough.

The very fact that the Cubs are interested shows that Grissom's numbers are not bad enough to discourage Hendry. Simon's and Neifi's season numbers were also terrible when they were acquired.

Good point. I feel the Cubs shouldn't sign him but I could really see Grissom wearing blue pin stripes in a week. Hendry seems to enjoy finding reclamation projects.

hopefully grissom can hit 320 for 60 at bats and trick the cubs into thinking he's good so we sign him for next year too.

I'll never give up on the Cubs as the team in the NL, but I reserve full rights to root for the A"s in the AL and root for them throughtout the playoffs should the Cubs not make the playoffs....

If only we had that organizational philosophy we'd be set. Imagine if the A's had 100 mil to work with...

Grissom is just what the Cubs need to get better. Maybe if the Cubs get enough washed up 35 and older players they can finally reach that ultimate goal of becoming the unlovable losers that they seem to be striving for.

I think part of the reason the A's are as good as they are is BECAUSE they have such a low budget - they HAVE to learn to evaluate players extremely well, they have to continually look to improve their team through good trades and they "buy low and sell high." I think the higher your budget goes, the more lazy you become as an organization - the answer is usually to just throw more money at it.

well if we stuck to that how about these lines?

.234 18 71 plus 23 errors in half a season before trade....we just paid him 12 mil

aramis rameriz the last full season in pitt

.215 14 54....our stud right fielder and #4 hitter, his last full year not in colorado

.208 10 30....our stud catcher's last year before joining the cubs

when you are not good why not try a guy who won't cost you anything, who has been pretty decent in his career. he has terrible stats this year but let's see if he is done or if he has something left in the tank.

How long is Hairston out?

Look, I'm not thrilled about acquiring a guy like Grissom, but when faced with the prospect of seeing Macias in CF everyday... get Grissom ASAP!!

Posted
Why not? What have they to lose? Baker' not going to play Murton, might as well go with someone who he'll play and has played a competent CF in his career.
Posted

my first choice would be to bring up pie and see what he could do. same with murton and cedeno. since we know they won't do that, how much worse could it be than macias in center? obviously he is not the answer for next season.

we have gamble on arms and a few position guys that have worked...why not see? he is probably not the guy but who is? there are no great free agent fixes and because of that the few possibilities out there may be really expensive!
