I have been on this forum now for only two days, and there are some obvious things. Most of yall hate Neifi and hate Baker. I would just like to hear mostly on why you hate Neifi. I agree with most points on Baker, but I mean Neifi has had some big hits for us this year, hell he hit a grand slam to win the game against the cards. I am just saying we lost Garciaparra and have had a pretty good replacement this year better then any of yall would have expected him to do. Why do you expect our players to be so great, when we have been so bad for so long. You expect all of our players to all stars? It seems like the only players yall like are Prior, Dempster, Lee, Murton, and Aramas. Oh, and Cedeno too. I am sure if we would have started Cedeno the whole year, his numbers wouldn't be nearly as good as Perez.

Secondly, I agree totally on Murton needing at bats though. The one player on the cubs I really don't like is Hairston, I just think it is crazy to bat him first or second, but he seems to always hit there. Move Burnitz to center, he is ten times the fielder Hairston is. Put Lawton in right and start MURTON everyday. He is really good, and can flat out hit the ball. What does Hairston bring to our lineup, he doesn't even run the bases good, much less get on base a lot.

I am really looking forward to getting Wood and Willie back. They will be very solid for us. People talk bad about our pen a lot, but in all honesty when we get them our pen honestly will be pretty good. Good lefties in Ohman, Remmie, and Rusch. Solid power guys in Novoa, Woodie, and Willie. And a very good closer in Dempster

What do you think about our chances of landing Damon in the offseason? Anyway you think he leaves Boston, just for some of you who know more about this situation then I do.

I know this might be more for the minor league part, but how has Pawelek looked in the minors so far?

And, lastly, I really think as a whole now this team is really good. If we can just get in a little groove and stay consistent for once, I really think this team will make the playoffs, the Phillies, Mets, and Nats don't worry me at all. It will come down to us, the Marlins, and the Stros. I really think that the difference in whether we make the playoffs or not is the prodcution we get out of Hill and Jerome, and I am very confident in both of them. So GO CUBS!!! Lets make 05 a season to remember and tell me what yall think on some of this.

Its not so much that we hate Neifi or the fact that he does occasionally play over his head, its more or less that it is a fact that he is an awful hitter. His career ops+ is 63 and this year his obp is .284 which is BAD. As a late inning defensive replacement and a backup shortstop I dont mind him at all and when he does start and bats 8th its not so bad, but half the year leading off or in the two hole is not where he should be. So yes we hate how he is used but we do not hate him.

Well, let's start with Neifi. His problem is basically Baker has used him wrong. He has a terrible OBP and was used at the top of the lineup for much of the year. I do agree that he has down okay when you consider that he is a 2nd string SS. Unfortunately, he has had to start all year. Putting Burnitz in CF is okay in an emergency, but he doesn't have the speed and range to play CF everyday and especially in a big ballpark. Until Patterson returns or Pie is ready, Hairston needs to be in CF. As for Damon, I think he will be looking at 3-4 years and $28-40 million and the Cubs are committed to Pie by 2007, if not next year. As for the bullpen, let's hope Woody is okay. Remmy is over the hill, Novoa is still inconsistent, and Dempster has been good, but scary at times. If Lawton, Nomar, Wood, and Williamson all contribute the way we hope they will, I think the Cubs have a good shot at the Wild Card.

So it all comes down to hating Baker right? :D I agree though I don't know if I want Damon if Pie is going to be there. I expect great things from Pie, but we can't rush him like we did Patterson.

Neifi Perez isnt as good as Alex Gonzalez and the Cubs ran him out of town last year. Heck he hit 3 game winning HRS. I am not sure what Kool-Aid anyone who thinks Neifi has been "Good" for us has been drinking. I think its the same darn Kool-Aid the Bill Buckner fans were drinking all those years

He was our BACK UP SHORTSTOP. I mean we had to give up Gonzalez in that Garciaparra trade. What are you talking about ran him out of town? We got back one of the best shortstops of all time for him. So I don't quite think we ran him out of town. Why don't you look at all the other teams in baseball and let them lose there starting shortstop and see how much prodcution they get from there back up shorstop.

Gonzo was on the hot seat for some time before the trade deadline. He was going to be out at the deadline no matter what. The thing with Neifi is Why are we sending out a 30 something who is not going to improve when we could be sending Cedeno out there. He would probably give us at least what Neifi has and will probably improve. I understand that he was signed as a back-up. Just the day he was signed I predicted he would get at least 400 ABs this year. Not because of injuries but because he is obviously a player that Dusty likes. So basically Dusty has taken a player of some value (Neifi as a BACK UP) and used him in a situation he would never be successful at (as a starter) so the fans can only dislike him

why don't we all just take a deep breath, and look back and read the multiple other neifi perez threads on this board. it's been discussed at great length MANY times before, and i don't think we need to start this argument again.

if we consolidated all the neifi and dusty threads into one thread, it would be so big, it would have its own gravitational pull, and it would cause the internets to blow up.
