I know that this is kind of a stupid topic...but just for something to talk about, what # do you guys think Lawton will wear? Ohman already sports #50. Yahoo sports has him wearing #99.

What do you guys think?

10 and 14 are out. Soon 23 and 26 will be, too.

26 already is out. Out before 10 was.

And with any luck, 21 will be retired within a few years, also (depending on when he decides to hang them up)

I would immagine that its kinda unofficially retired right now anyways, just like 23. I doubt anyone even thinks about wearing those numbers.

My guess...since he is a veteran...and has established #50 as his, he will make a deal with Ohman to get #50..then Ohman will get a new number.

Well, since the Cubs have retired exactly three numbers in over 100 years of existence, I doubt Sosa's # gets retired until he makes the Hall of Fame. Santo is the one exception to this rule so far (and I think his was only retired because of his continued work with the club + his failing health). Sandberg's will be retired at the start of next season I would imagine. #21 will be available for at least the next 6 or 7 years.

Oh, I agree it probably wont be retired while he's still playing. I see sammy hanging around the big leagues for another two or so years. And I'm sure they wont retire it till he enters the hall anyways. However, like i said, its probably 'unofficially' retired. I doubt anyone will actually wear that number. But untill the team and sosa mend the little rift between them, and sosa is inducted, i doubt that they actually hang a flag with his number on it. Allthough, a "SAMMY" flag does still fly on the roof....

What was Lawton's number at Cleveland? Just curious.

He wore 11 for the Tribe

He also wore #50 for the Twins (95-01) and #23 for the mets in 01.

Sandberg's # is going to be retired at the Aug 28 game vs. the Marlins

Don't forget about 31 being on the flagpole one day. Twice.

don't forget 42 is retired too.

Yea, but just because all the cool teams are doing it.

Mariano Rivera is the only guy left that can wear #42, right?

Personally, I think retiring 42 for all 30 teams was ridiculous. The only team that should have it retired is the Dodgers. Let players wear it on the other 29 teams to honor Robinson.

Pardon my stupidity, but was retiring 42 for all the teams another one of Bud Selig's bright ideas?
