  1. anyone see this yet? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2685697 Ted Lilly is rumored to be signing with the Cubs. Reports that the Cubs are making serious runs at Jason Schmidt and Barry Zito appear to be vastly overblown. Zito is barely on their radar screen. And Schmidt's price tag ($15 million a year for three to five years) has them looking for less expensive options -- with a list topped by Ted Lilly and Gil Meche.
  2. Say what you will about the guy, maybe he's not the big name bat we all seek but I think he'd fit in well with this club. We wouldn't have to give up much in return and his 1.7mil contact is up at the end of the year and includes a mutual option. He plays a solid first base and outfield and he'd fit well into the 7 spot in the order. When Lee returns he can platoon with Jones in RF. My thoughts are running only because we really seem to need another bat in this lineup quickly. pierre, walker, ramirez, barrett, murton, jones, conine, cedeno Upon Lee's return..... pierre, walker, lee, ramirez, barrett, murton, jones/conine, cedeno I don't know, nothing spectacular, but it’s solid. Let me know what you think.
  3. http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20051206&content_id=1277312&vkey=news_sf&fext=.jsp&c_id=sf
  4. I wouldn't mind seeing something like this..... Lofton (til Pie) Hairston (or Cedeno) Lee Giles ARam Nomar Murton Barrett Pitcher Wood Prior Zambrano Maddux Williams Dempster Williamson Howry Seanez Wuertz Ohman Blanco Perez Sweeney ? ? Therefore, we sign Lofton (1 yr), Giles (3 yrs, til Harvey), Nomar, Williamson, Howry, Seanez, Sweeney, and possibly one or two more role player(s).
  5. sportsline has lawton as 50 and ohman as 45.
  6. After hearing today that Peter Gammons said the Cubs would have already called up Pie had he not gotten hurt I thought about how it's been well stated that the Cubs called Patterson up too early which stunted his growth as a player. I'm not sure how Gammons heared about this if at all, but I think the Cubs will be careful with Pie because he's still only 20 years old. So my question would be, can anyone supply Pie's minor league stats compared to Corey's? I'd be interested to see the comparisons, especially their number of games played.
