The Lawton trade

First how is everyone this is my sencond official post. I am a card fan and have a few cubbie fans that i enjoy talking to and have visited here a few times and thought i would finally chime in. What do you guys think the Lawton trade was for: to make a rush for the postseason or to give you all a good start on a corner outfielder for next year.

 

in the cards case Lawton could have been a good possiblity for a move for the future in that we have an old outfield out there and with the injuries and all. Walker is done after this year, and Sanders if close to finished but we needed him for the future and a "stop gapper" this year.

 

I was just puzzled as to what Lawton is for the cubbies? Longterm leadoff hitter or rental player?

You could make a case for him to be the longterm leadoff man for the Cubs, but I think his price tag is too high. The Cubs will have some available money this offseason, but throwing at Lawton is questionable IMO. I like the trade for this season. It seems like the wild card will go down to the end, so he might be a difference maker, and give our power guys more rbi chances. His defense is a liability though.

My thoughts on the trade: Roll of the dice.

 

I do think Hendry did the right thing in trying to bolster the mediocre offense, but there wasn't much out there. We'll see what happens from here until Oct. As a Cub fan, he does not a thing to get my hope up that I may see the Cubs play in the playoffs.

I think it was mainly for this year, to give the Cubs a much needed OBP guy for the top of the lineup. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he is resigned. Especially if he proves to be a sparkplug and helps get the Cubs to the playoffs, like Lofton in '03.

well i hope the trade works out for you guys...i just wish we had some secure youth-not the jrod or gall injections even thought it seems we cant bring up someone that doesnt start hot for us.

 

Now does anyone have a list of Ofers that are FA after the season seeing that both of our teams will be players in that game.
