I am hoping that Greenberg gets a shot after he comes back from his injury. When does the roster expand to 40?

A shot at what, an everyday ML player? He sure doesn't look like one to me. I see him and I see Doug Dascenzo, without the crafty mound presence.

I see Adam Greenberg and I see my paperboy. He looks like he should still be in high school.

He's past Corey Patterson

Wayyyyy too early to give up on Murton, he's untouchable in my eyes. I see him turning into a 20+ homer, 80 to 90+ RBI guy, with a high average and a high on base percentage.

Conventional wisdom says you want power from 3B/1B/LF/RF. But I say, if you got power from 3B/SS/2B/1B, then you can afford to go high OBP at LF/RF.

I'd much rather have medium power--20+ HRs--from 6 to 8 positions than big power from a couple. I mean, Sammy used to carry the team for weeks at a time, but once he cooled off, or got injured, there was nothing. Spread the risk out a little.

In fact, my perfect team would have 1 to 8 high OBP, .450 sluggers.

Murton has a lot more value to me than sitting him and spending a lot for a banger.

That works for me. I'd be quite happy with a team like that.

Speaking of Corey, has anybody seen anything today saying he'll be called up this week?

Yes, I have have.

But, sinceI heard it this moring on the score (yes that score), and since now one else is reporting it--i am hoping that I was day dreaming.

BUT, I was in the car this morning around 9:30-1:000, and they broke away from the show (i think it was North...?) and said "the cubs are to recall Corey patterson." That was it, no when or for who.

But, now that I am home for the day, and this board is not up in arms--I am starting to wonder If i sprinkled a little PCP on my cheerios.

I am serious about this, I SWEAR i heard this. But, I can not believe no one else did?!?!?

Adam Greenberg has been a consistently excellent performer througout his college baseball (ACC rookie of the year, All ACC, first team All-american, etc....) and minor league career. I have a feeling he will someday remind us of a david ecstein in the outfield. Tremendously scrappy player that should make an excellent fourth outfielder with defense, speed, and a good eye, but little to no power.

Greenberg has the potential to be an everyday CF/leadoff. He's a cheap option for next year and he will be more productive than Corey in the leadoff spot.

Just to clarify, I wasn't knocking Greenberg as a player. It's just that he looks so young to me. Probably just me getting older.

I'm going to guess that if that's true he comes up for one of the three pitchers we think will be sent down and Cedeno still goes down later this week for Nomar.

By Friday, that'd give Baker a bench of:

Murton R

Blanco R

Hollandsworth L

Patterson L

Perez S

Macias S

Unless there's a deal in the near future of course.

I can confirm that the Score mentioned that Corey would be recalled soon. They could not figure out if it would be in the next "7-10 days" they previously reported or sooner than that. They implied that Corey's recall might be imminent and coincide with a waiver deal trading away Jerry Hairston. This is where the Score ventured off into "I don't believe they know what they are talking about" land.......

I don't understand this at all. Corey is still trying to make changes to his swing, and at this point is struggling in AAA. It makes no sense to call him up until he is more confident and has proven that he can hit using this new approach.

It also makes no sense to believe most anything reported by the Score until it actually happens. Not a very reliable source.
