  1. 1. Keep all games on WGN?

    • Yes, the Sox don't have a National Audience.

I hate having to be out of market and having to pay $100+ to see the games on TV. Especially having to stay in one place to watch the game. It really gets annoying. I think they should go back to having all the games on WGN and putting all the Sox games on CSN. After all, who has the bigger national audience? Edited by cubsfaninfla

This isn't a Cubs vs. Sox issue. It's no secret that Cub games have routinely crushed the Sox' ratings in recent years, both locally and especially nationwide.

The Cubs' broadcast partner - CSN, formerly FSN - wants certain games for its audience, and negotiates for claims on certain dates well in advance of the season. (For instance, WGN has first choice and usually claims the Wrigley opener, leaving the season opener to the regional sports network.) WGN is then left with several open dates that scream for a ballgame, and throws the Sox up there. I'd prefer Bozo reruns, but that's not the point.

There are so many ways to access Cubs TV feeds these days ... it seems silly to gripe about games on/off of WGN.

I think the fanbase would be better served by a full slate on WGN, but MLB would never allow such. The other owners weren't too thrilled about 300 free Cubs and Braves games streaming into their markets every year.

The money the Cubs get from putting the games on CSNC (which goes towards the payroll) makes it well worth it.

I feel like i've made this point a million times, but here goes...

Cubs fans are spoiled by WGN. Ditto Braves fans and TBS. Everyone complains because they live outside of Chicagoland and are limited by the number of games WGN plays, having to order Extra Innings, etc.

You still have it really good compared to most baseball fans.

For example, imagine if you lived in Chicago but were a Yankees fan. Or Mets. Red Sox, Dodgers, Phillies, etc., etc. How many games a year do you expect to see then? At least you get the games that those teams play against the Cubs or White Sox.

Now imagine living where I do (central PA) and wanting to watch anyone but the Pirates. No dice.

So I wish people would stop complaining that they are "only" getting 70 or 80 games on WGN when fans of other teams are lucky to get 10 games via ESPN or FOX.

AMEN! I don't have cable, but I get plenty of games on WGN. I don't mind giving up some games on TV, as long as my Cubbies are in the playoffs, b/c then I can watch all the games on FOX and WGN will do a simalcast for the games ESPN carries.
