Meh.

Hairston career #'s (age 29): .262/.335/.373

Roberts career #'s (age 33): .257/.335/.353

Neither of these guys are all that special. Roberts is probably a short term upgrade given his speed and defense in center.

Roberts is also a center fielder and Hairston isn't.

Maybe it's something like...

Soriano & Roberts to Chicago

Walker to Tx

Hairston to SD

Can someone throw Roberts park adjusted numbers out there? :D

obviousy that is a true statement.

But, don't you have to compare the two in the capacity that they would/are being used?

I am not trying to state that i am all for this trade--but rather that it IS an improvement--just not a whole lot.

Is Hill anything special or just another guy the board obsesses about (see Jason DuBois) who's far from special.

I dunno, he's got potential. His curveball is devastating, but everything else is kinda average. However, with Wood being as unreliable as he is and Maddux getting old, I don't see how trading Rich Hill is even an option.

i'm sick of listening to the "average" argument. he's 25 with 2 starts under his belt. he's gone 11 innings and given up 4 runs. his fastball peaks in the low 90s (92 yesterday) and his curve is well above average. you guys are acting like he's in his 3rd year and what you see now is what you're going to get for the next 7/8 years. the last time i checked, we weren't loaded with talented LHPs in the minors. my guess is some of you were saying the same thing about dontrelle when he was a throw-in a few years back. probably raved about ol' six fingers and clement and wrote willis off.

cubbie75 is right...without wood in the rotation, who takes hill's place if he's dealt??

I hope these rumors are true... the best way to address the team's OBP problem is by trading for guys who don't get on base much!

zzzzzzzzzzzzz

The team needs defense and slugging from the 6th spot too.

Roberts is, more than likely, a better defensive CF.

Roberts is more of base stealing threat.

Dusty doesn't like Hairston.

Makes sense to me.

Thank you. In Jim Hendry I trust.

Roberts has a better RC/G than Hairston, 5.6 to 4.9. Roberts has been HORRIBLE in July after having 2 very good months by his standards. In 55 July AB's, he's hitting .109/.254/.109. Ack.

JHJR OBP/Roberts OPB

2005

341/334

2004

378/340

2003

353/330

Career numbers for guys who have been in the league as long as both JHJR and Roberts are skewed. Look at their last 3 years and tell me Roberts is the same.

Would like to note that Dave Roberts has been having one of the most pathetic July's I've ever seen...

.109/.254/.109/.363

Seriously, the dude has put up a .363 OPS in July...

NO THANKS

So don't trade for Roberts cause he's sucked in July?

Didn't say that, just offering his July as an explanation why his numbers are similar to Hairston's, yet he's been more productive.

Ahh gotcha. Was going to counter w/ SMALL SAMPLE SIZE. :D Think that term has been out 4000 times on this board before. :D

Let me throw something else out.

Would you include Rich Hill in a deal for Mark Texieria?

Where would Texiera play?

LF

Does he have the ability to play there?

In a heartbeat. But we would have to include Pie and then some to get Texas to bite and I'm not sure if Tex could play LF.

Left field.

And he could give Lee a day off once in awhile. Could probably spell Ramirez if need be.

Not saying the Rangers would even consider this but they just acquired Phil Nevin and the only positions he can play are ones the Rangers don't need anybody: 1B, 3B, LF, RF, DH.

I'm pretty sure he played LF a little bit when he came up because Palmeiro was still there and may have played it in the minors as well.

I don't think he'd have any problem doing that.

Again, there's probably no way they deal him but picking up Nevin raises some questions.

Yeah I checked. In 2003 and 2004 combined, he played about 20 games each at third and in left. This year he has played first exclusively.
