Julio Lugo and Aaron Heilman have been added to the proposed three-team deal involving Manny Ramirez, with the Mets getting Lugo to play second base.

Heilman would join the Rays and maybe get a rotation spot. Recent conversations have also involved the Red Sox, rather than the Rays, getting Mets outfielder Lastings Milledge, with Red Sox shortstop Hanley Ramirez going to Tampa Bay instead. It seems unlikely that the megadeal will go down, but even if it doesn't, both the Mets and Red Sox could look to work out smaller trades with Tampa Bay. Jul. 30 - 2:08 pm et

This is fast becoming the "Deal that Ate Tampa Bay"

If they're not already the youngest team in baseball, they will be soon - and probably by a lot.

If this deal goes thru (I don't think it will, there were too many parts involved yesterday, and now even more) where does Tampa play Ramirez? They've already got Upton that sweet Lou won't play. Tampa's got too many good prospects not to play and/or trade a few of them. This is a minor league fan's dream

Upton, Ramirez from Boston, Cantu, Milledge?, Delmon the Great as opposed to Dmitri the Lesser, Baldelli (surgery I know), Crawford, Shoppach, Gomes, and who else am I leaving out? Add Phelps in at DH/1st Base and you've got a crowd.

Well, the Red Sox just traded Shoppach to Colorado for Larry Bigbie.

Well cancel out Shoppach and add Bigbie in if the Sox swap him there. Do they even have a place for him to play? I'd guess this definitely means Huff is gone for sure now.

Bigbie's gonna be getting some sweet frequent flier miles this weekend.

Whose reporting this by the way?

I thought Shopvac was a top catching prospect. Why the heck would they trade him for Bigbie? He's only a marginal ML outfielder.

Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus. He says its Bigbie for Adam Stern and Shoppach.

He was going off a newspaper report that said it wasn't final though.

Bigbie's the hot name this season for some reason. Shoppach is no better off in Colorado than he was in Boston. He'll be behind Closser and have little chance of playing much like being behind Tek and Mirabelli.

His article (which is premium content on BP) includes no such disclaimer and describes the deal in the past tense.

Yeah, he edited it from the original post. This is the report that it originated from.

Also, for those who want to know, there's no such thing as premium content on BP until August 3.

It's free this week:

Saturday, July 30, 1:25 p.m. ET: Larry Bigbie wasn't in Colorado for long. Dan O'Dowd was able to flip him to the Red Sox for Rule 5 pick Adam Stern and prospect Kelly Shoppach, who replaces J.D. Closser as catcher of the always-moving future. Colorado took Bigbie over offers from other teams knowing that he was "flippable." Losing out on Eric Byrnes now makes Walt Jocketty work a bit harder. The Cards are thinking big with their acquisition, asking about Adam Dunn and Brian Giles.

The Cards won't get either.

For anybody to get Adam Dunn, means they have to deal prospects period.

Giles is on a team pushing for the playoffs, they wont trade him.

The Cards have 2 or 3 very good pitching prospects that were much more highly regarded than Hill. Wainright is the only name that comes to mind but Jocketty has shown he's not afraid to trade prospects for splash deals.

See Haren, Dan & Isringhausen, Jason

Reyes and Wainright. After that...they're one of the worst systems in the game.
