I sat in for the Steve Phillips chat this morning to see what sort of questions he would answer. He seems bound and determined to find a way to get Manny Rameriez to the Cubs. Here is a copy of the chat log from this morning. Since it wasn't in Insider when I copied it I don't think there should be any problems.

Thanks for posting that.

I just don't see it happening for a number of reasons. First of all, I don't see the Red Sox trading away Manny with the situation they're in right now. We don't really have/couldn't afford what they would want, so it would have to be the middle of a multi-team deal.

Secondly, with all of clubhouse cleaning up management did last year, I can't see them taking on a guy like Manny. Boston's front office has been shaking their heads about this guy for years. Even though Boston has two off day's in 5 days, Manny refused to play yesterday which was his scheduled day off. Francona wanted him in the lineup because of Nixon's injury but Manny refused. He had the play where the other night where he got blasted because he simply jogged (slower than an Aramis jog) in the 10th inning on a DP ball.

Now the paper's are saying that teammates are fed up with him and sick of the media letting his stuff slide with the "that's just Manny being Manny."

Thirdly, would they really trade another superstar to the Cubs for the third straight year?

Yeah Hawkeye I don't think I would want to put up with Manny with all of his quirks. Plus if he complains about not having any privacy outside of games in Boston then Chicago will be no better for him.

In Stark's chat he is saying that NONE of the Reds outfielders are available and that's what everyone is being told. The only player that will be moved is Aurillia.

He also said the Astros gave up on Dunn two weeks ago. The Reds asked for Backe and another off their big league club, plus their two top prospects.

I don't understand the Reds thinking, they need pitching, their only tradable commodities are the OF's And none are available?

It's too difficult to understand the Reds thinking because I don't think they understand it themselves. Their organization is screwed up big time. I guess they're just going to keep having to deal with having 4 good outfielders who should be playing everyday for only 3 positions. I'm sure that won't turn into a problem. Wait, it already has. The Reds don't have a clue.
