Dusty was wrong again to start Todd Hollandsworth today. Murton comes into the game and instantly makes an impact. Just think if he would have been in earlier in the game with a man on 3rd and less than 1 out. Dusty will claim to have made the right move by pinch hitting for Hollandsworth and giving Murton the chance to be sucessful, but most Cubs fans are smart enough to see Hollandsworth was worthless today in a wonderful 0-3 3k performance. Murton could have done that so Dusty you are full of it. Not a single person should give Dusty any credit, because if any fan could have written the lineup card Hollandsworth would have never played to begin with. Oh and thank you Matt Murton way to play the game right.

I thought this was going to be about letting Z hit and pitch into the 8th even though he had already had 112+ pitches on him....I know you used the bullpen last night but still.....

yeah I know that was a questionable move especially since he threw 9 innings his last start in St. Louis. I just am tired of watching his managerial moves. I'm extatic that we won the game, just don't see us going anywhere with Dusty making the decisions. The players win the games despite the moves he makes.

Yeah no $%#@. I was really surprised to se that happen. ESPECIALLY when he was leading off that inning.....I just don't understand that.

The sad thing is exactly what you said about Dusty likely reinforcing his decision to use Murton in a "pinch hit role" against a lefty and putting him in situations where he can "become successful."

Dusty justifies his moves in his own mind - regardless of what anyone else has to say.

I like Matt Murton and his approach at the plate - I know I for one would sure like to see him out there regularily for a week or two at the very least.

Dude, you like gotta let the veteran play. Rookies gotta earn their playing time and Holly has been really hitting the ball hard lately, he is just unlucky. :^o

I just posted this in nomar thread under transactions but I thought it would fit well here too....I can't believe he has this mentality:

From KFFL.com

Jul 27 The Chicago Tribune reports Chicago Cubs MAN Dusty Baker told reporters there should be no assumptions that Cubs SS Nomar Garciaparra (groin) will get his starting job back when healthy. "Nothing is automatic," Baker said. "We'll have to see how Nomar is doing. Neifi Perez says he realized when he came here that he came here as a utility guy. But he hasn't remained a utility guy with what he has done. I hear a lot of people say, 'Hey, put Ronny Cedeno in.' What am I supposed to do, push Neifi out now? This guy has saved us.

Yes that is what you are supposed to do.....

In case it doesn't get selected (and I doubt it will) I just submitted the following to the Tribune's "View from the fans":

Dusty Not Good… Just Lucky

Maybe he should play the lottery, or maybe go to Vegas. Either way, Dusty has been clearly receiving more than his share of luck. Take for example the Cubs win on Wednesday against the Giants. It was a win that Dusty did his best to give away. Let’s take a closer look at a couple of things from that game:

1. Hollandsworth starting.

Just last week, Dusty had this to say in the Tribune when asked about playing rookies:

"One of the best ways to learn is to see a guy do it, and sort of emulate him, as opposed to a coach or manager telling you how to do it,"

The article indicated that it was Dusty’s philosophy for a rookie to watch and learn. Therefore, I must ask, did Matt Murton learn a lot from watching Hollandsworth strike out three times against a guy he was 3 for 23 against in his career? Granted, Murton got into the game against a lefty and drove in the tying run, but what if the pitcher had been a righty? Would Hollandsworth have been sent out there again after failing to drive in a runner from third with one out his last time at bat? The fact is, Murton, with his 3 for 4 the previous night and his .545 OBP since being called up, deserves an opportunity to start against everybody, and had he been in the game from the beginning, we probably would have never even needed to bat in the 9th.

2. Zambrano in the 8th.

This one is even more puzzling. Dusty has stubbornly insisted on having 12 pitchers all season long, meaning that we have an extra arm in the bullpen. Yet, he decides to let his starter not only bat in the bottom of the 7th when trying to get some insurance runs should have been the goal, he lets the same starter go out to start the 8th inning after throwing 112 pitches, while the seven arms in the bullpen sit and watch. Does Dusty’s philosophy on rookies also apply to his bullpen pitchers? Needless to say, we all saw what we knew would happen (and even if it hadn’t, why burn your starters arm for another inning when you’ll need those innings even more so later in the year.)

These are just two of the obvious areas where the lucky win will mask how the poor management of our team should have cost us that win. I could point out other areas as well, such as why was Jose Macias and his .293 OBP leading off? The fact is, on many occasions, Dusty has done his best to give away wins, yet the team manages to overcome the decisions, sometimes even making him a hero. Since we have a LF in Murton and we have 7 seldom used arms in the pen, I suggest Hendry make another trade. Trade Dusty. Please. Before he costs us another win.

I was just so frustrated with Dusty and his stupid decisions that I finally had to say something.

That is a funny quote about Neifi. A limited range, low obp, good glove with a little power, who has had a couple of clutch hits. Didnt the Cubs push one of those guys out last year at the deadline to make room for Nomar.
