I am talking about his defense. I am not asking you to change any opinion after one game. No one said Neifi lights the world on fire offenseivly. But, look around the league. He is in the middle of the pack. No way is his defense average. Here again is Ronnie strength is defense. I agree he looks good on defense but Neifi has been a gold glover and still looks to be.

 

So you're saying offensively he's been in the middle of the pack in terms of NL shortstops?

The other funny thing is when people suddenly want us to change our tune because he has one good game (or even AB)... We're not that fickle. He sucks. You can say it's an opinion, I consider it a fact. It would take a whole lot more than he's done this year (which, again, has been BELOW his career averages) to convince me otherwise.

 

Exactly. People are way too fickle. I am as happy as anyone that Neifi hit that GS in STL and tied the game last night, but that isn't going to make me forget that he has been nothing short of abysmal over the past two months, and most of his career. I appreciate what he did for the team in April and May, but he has essentially been Rey Ordonez since then. His presence in the lineup over that time has clearly been a detriment to the team.

Yes, well Dusty claimed today that Neifi is great shortstop who isn't a utility man, and is a starting shortstop, and he can't bench him for Cedeno. Then he said he didn't know what he'd do when Nomar came up.

 

That press conference was horrifying. Why I was surprised I have no idea.

 

Did he really say that Neifi is a "great" shorstop?

Rain update: Sorry, there's still a very light sprinkle in the area. I just stepped outside and felt it, couldn't even see it from the window. Definitely not enough to stop a game, but who knows if they want to wait until it completely stops before starting one.

 

Edit: Oh, well I guess the tarp is off. That's what I get for looking out a window instead of at tv. :)

Wow. That is some serious hatred for a someone named illiniguy.

Think about what they gave away this offseason Beltran and Kent. Add to that Bagwell is done and they have lost about what 90 homers 300 rbis yet they are still playing this well. It is flat out ridiculous.

 

 

I GET THE FEELING THAT THIS SURGE OF THEIRS WONT BE AS SUSTAINED AS LAST YEARS, IT TOOK BELTRAN AND HIS REALLY GOOD 2ND HALF LAST YEAR TO GET THEM INTO THE PLAYOFFS, THEY DONT HAVE THAT THIS YEAR

i meant the year before though, yeah you guys played us tough. If alford would have been any kind of coach you would have won. We looked ahead to the game at wisky, but you guys stood around and watched pierre play one on one at the end with luther. A game luther will always win.

The Cubs weren't going to bring up Cedeno in MJay. first off, every player goes into a slump. If a manager started sitting players..

Neifi's not in a slump... he's just being the player that he is, which is below average. It's silly to keep starting Neifi regardless of his poor performance.

Great. I think there is even a stronger argument for Murton playing, but he's not a savvy vet like Holly who can't be benched.

 

That's just Dusty sticking up for his guys. I heard that press conference and it sounded to me like someone just trying to stir up trouble... The truth is that if Nomar comes back at even 70 % he'll probably be starting which means Ronny will be sent down and Neifi will ride the pine.
