''I love to play against these guys,'' he said of the Cubs. ''I love their team and I love their players and I love to do it at home, because they have so many fans here who are such loyal followers.''

From Kiley:

If outfielder Austin Kearns wants to come to the Cubs, and people behind the scenes in Cincinnati insist that he does, he might not have helped himself by beating the Cubs 9-6 Thursday afternoon.

From Miles:

Sources say Hendry and Reds GM Dan O’Brien talked about Kearns on Thursday.

The Cubs right now could offer the Reds one or two decent pitching prospects, bring Kearns to Chicago and help the player and both teams. The Cubs love Kearns, and Kearns has been telling people he’d love to go to the Cubs.

I think it's looking pretty likely that Hendry will make a serious run at Kearns. If he decides he can part with Hill, then Dunn may be the guy - however I don't see that happening now.

I'd rather have Kearns than Dunn at this point, if for no other reason than it would cost us less (in terms of prospects). And it sounds like Kearns wants to be a Cub.

BTW - Bruce's last line of that article (last link in the original post) is outstanding. Not so subtle dig at Mr. Morgan.

ESPN’s production is more respectful of baseball’s nuances, and you get the announcing team of Jon Miller and Joe Morgan.

I like Miller. Oh, I see I’m out of space to write anything more.

Deal for Kearns now, sign Dunn after next season when he's a free agent...or deal for him midseason next year when the Reds are finished (again) and you can get him for just a little better than the draft pick compensation they'd have to settle for if they let him walk :D

forgive my memory, but was it Kearns or Casey who was sent to the minors earlier this year? freakin Reds have too many stud of's.

It was Kearns. Casey is a first baseman.

If something happened, I wonder if Murton would be included.

I'd hope not. I'm really starting to like the kid and I'd like to see him get more time. If we could deal for Kearns, Keep Murton, have them play the corners next year and sign Johnny Damon to lead off for a couple of years that would be a solid outfield...(Ducks while people type furiously about how that would block Pie)

I like the idea of getting kearns better than Dunn.......we'd be giving up alot less....and thus far, weve had excellent luck in these tyrpes of trade scenarios.

Damon in the offseason would be too good to be true :)

Austin Kearns has taken more vile, unrepeatable, sexually-explicit abuse from the RF bleachers than any player I can think of. And he can dish it out, too. It would really be a shame if that relationship changed.

But if he hit .234/.313/.406 for the Cubs, maybe it wouldn't have to.

Are none of you worried about Kearns's stats? He only had a good half-season and that's it. Although he would be an uprade in LF I am a bit worried about it.

I have two questions unrelated to this topic, but I don't know where else to ask them and since I am new I thought maybe someone could help me out here...

1) What does IMO mean? People seem to use it a lot and I keep trying to figure it out but it is used in so many contexts I am lost.

2) When a thread is "sticky" what does that mean?

IMO = in my opinion

sticky means that the thread stays on top of the page, no matter what. usually reserved for important threads.

A thread that is stickied has a higher priority than other threads, so it can't be bumped down the list on the forum, except for by other stickies, I believe.

Me too. Hope Hendry doesn't overpay. I don't think he's worth much more than Mitre.
