To the Sox's good OBP it does, but not to the 'more runs=more consistent offense' 'myth.' The proof of that can be found in the difference between the '03 and '04 Cubs.

The Cubs really aren't that bad at OBP - .340 is the standard for good. Add our top BA and SLG to the equation and we have a pretty darn good offense, plus we'll get Nomar back and may even add a good bat in the OF.

Off topic: you know who I don't miss? Corey Patterson.

In 2005:

	        Sox Cubs
0-2 Runs	26 25
3-5 Runs	39 44
6+ Runs 33 30

So...the Cubs' offense seems to score a shade more consistently than the Sox do. Interesting.

Should be straight forward enough CP - find the standard deviation. I did a quick check and found that in 64 of their 95 games, the sox have scored 3 or less or 6 or more.

How does that compare with other teams this year, and other teams in previous years?

I don't know - perhaps UK studied that as well.

Pretty standard bell curve, IMO.
