Watching this sox game I now understand the trade the Cubs did earlier this year to get ride of Kyle Farnsworth. I understand that he has had a good season so far but this is still kyle Farnsworth who will look like a top notch pitcher and then the next game look like another head case that can't throw a ball for a strike. I was upset at the trade most the year, and usually I would say you can't judge someone one one game. However, this insident just reminds me of the past few years and how aggervating it has been to see him have so much potential and such a big head case. Anyone else see this game today?

Basing your opinion on a player on the couple bad times that stand out doesn't make sense. Kyle had his issues.

However, I find it's much more valuable to look at the entire picture. In my opinion, Kyle brought plenty to the table. Others disagree. Regardless of where you stand, form your opinions on the total package, not the very best or very worst appearances.

Every closer has nightmare outings.

And sometimes he goes nuts and plants an opposing pitcher really, really hard.

It's just one of those things. Happens to every pitcher at least once a year.

yes, like I said I wouldn't usually judge a guy on one game.

HOWEVER, I dont think I am judging him on one game I amd judging him on his past years. He has never been able to handle a pressure situation, and he had folded in the second half of year. People blame it on Dusty but Farns has to take some responsibility for his crashes. AKA hitting a fan and banging up other pitchers. I think I would rather have Novoa on the team in the second half when every game counts rather then Farnsworth who admitingly has his blow ups.

I bet julio franco wishes farnsworth was still in the NL. what pitch would you look for here? 13th fastball in a row? yep!

It's no surprise whatsoever that Farns would come back to Chicago and implode. Dude needed a change of scenery. What the Moneyballers refuse to do is add psychology to their baseball formulas. Baseball players are not robots. Also, I think the Cubs considered Farns more or less an idiot, and wanted his influence out.

What did he do to start that big brawl a few days ago?

Farnsy didn't start the brawl - the KC pitcher beaned the Detroit batter the pitch right after the batter told the ump that the pitch hit him on the ankle. The KC pitcher just kept talking smack, and a fight ensued. Farnsy came in on the tail end of it - did the Paul Wilson tackle to a different KC reliever. But that guy knew about last year of course and was ready for it. Still, it was a good clean hit - grabs the guy round the upper legs, carries him and thows him down.

Glad to see the Farns get pounded.

Seriously, this guy was the ultimate tease. He'd dominate for a while, only to completely implode. I know Tim propounds the "Farnsworth was overworked" theory, but I don't buy it.

Even if he is pitching in a much lower pressure situation for Detroit (with far fewer opportunities to take advantage of the nightlife), I still say he won't be able to handle being closer.
