Look at Jim Edmonds' stats before and after the trade to St. Louis. Before the trade he was very good, but frequently injured and never put up an OBP above .375 or an OPS+ above 137. Since he joined the Cards his OBP has been above .400 every year except one, and his OPS+ has been 148 or better each year. Plus he's been a lot more durable.

How can this be explained? How old was he when he came to St Louis? And did he move up in the order? Putting him in front of McGwire is similar to hitting in front of Bonds. He's going to see more pitches to hit. As for his improved durability, any ideas?

Maybe, both he and Mark don't wanna talk about the past???

In other overachieving Cardinal news, David Eckstein is about to surpass his career high in walks with 50 games remaining in the season. And Abraham Nunez's OPS is still over .100 higher than his career average. I would include Reggie Sanders on this list, but it's an odd-numbered year so he's supposed to do well. Oh and thirty-something relievers Al Reyes and Julian Tavarez are having career years.

On the flip side, Rolen has sucked.

Use this to your advantage when you drafy your fantasy team next year.

Reyes and Tavarez are pretty much doing what they did last year for us, minus Julian's bad first month or so last year. So that would be two career years in a row for them.

As much as I hate to say it, way to go Cardinals. I'm conceding the division and looking toward the Wild Card, so having Houston lose this weekend is in our best interests.

I know it took a lot for you to say that;)

Sweeping the Stros was a big statement this weekend. I think the last month was a little bit of a mirage for them. They're getting into the meat of thier schedule now and should start to fade. The Nats seem to be the team that the Cubs need to start falling off.

I think the Phils are going to start trading off players. The Mets don't scare me. Does anyone really think the D-backs are a playoff team? I think the WC is going to come down to the Cubs and Nats. As a possible NLCS preview, that should make the 14 games we share a lot of fun to watch. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS WEEKEND!!!

I actually see the wild-card coming down to the Cubs and Astros. I see the Nationals finally realizing they are the Expos just in a different country. Seriously, they had a good run and some good players, but I see them playing .500 or below from here on out, and I see the Braves with #14 straight. No one else in the NL East concerns me, really. Dontrelle looks like he'll do his typical 2nd half fade. The NL West? Only one team will be playing in October. The Astros just need one or two bats, and for Pettite and Oswalt to remain healthy. I know they were holding their breath on Saturday after Oswalt was hit by the pitch. But it will come down between the Cubs and Astros for the third straight year.
