have a feeling a big trade is coming? I heard the Cubs listed as potential Baez buyers. I think a Huff and Baez trade to the Cubs is going to happen. Just pure speculation on my part, no sources etc.

You never know. It's always a waiting game with Hendry. We had to wait until after the actual deadline time last year to find out about the Nomar trade. I hope he acts sooner rather than later...

Right now I think this is a trade that makes the most sense. Only problem is that Chuck Lamar is not going to fleece Jim Hendry like he did the Mets last season.

Huff has been very quite in the rumor mill lately which I think is really odd. This will not be a cheap trade though, something like Dopirak, Pinto, and a low level prospect. He will ask for Hill instead of Pinto as well. The good thing is this isn't a 1 year trade.

We think Hendry is in the market for a middle-of-the-order outfield bat and a relief pitcher or two. Hendry has made it clear, or better stated, the beat writers have said that Hendry has made it clear that he isn't going to trade for a 2 month rental. The guys he trades for have to help this year as well as next.

With Huff under contract in 2006 and Baez with a 2006 team option (and arbitration eligible), Larry's scenario makes perfect sense to balance the short term needs with having useful players for 2006. Now, will TB coooperate? They never do, do they?

I continue to hear Mike MacDougal's name.

Huff's stock is low, so I think he could be had for a stomachable price. It won't be Z for Huff like LaMar tried to sell us on in the offseason.

However, RP are at a premium. Baez is pretty solid and his price will be steep. MacDougal is the more likely option, however if the two were side by side at the same price (for argument's sake) I'd take Baez in a heartbeat. I'm sure most people would too.

I'd trade for Baez but Huff's defense is awful and he's not much of an offensive upgrade anyway. Let Murton play, and Hairston is the only leadoff hitter we have.

Dont do the trade for Huff. I dont believe he would be much of an upgrade over what we could do in house.

Baez would be a very nice addition but would he be willing to set up or would he gripe about not closing?

I think you make defense out of left-field more important than it really is.

If a realistic trade for Adam Dunn is possible I think the Cubs would take it in a heart beat as long as Cincy doesn't demand the world. A firstbase prosepect is no big deal but we should try holding onto Pie and Hill. If they want Murton, cash and another prospect so be it.

If the hold up on Dunn is Dopriak, I'll be quite disappointed. Seems 1b will be filled for a long time. Perhaps they move Lee to LF. :)

i agree. Dopirak will probably become a regular starting 1B in the majors, but we already got a half decent first baseman i think

i'd move dope to LF before our gold glover.

seriously though, Dunn is average against good pitching, but he crushes the ball against mediocre pitchers. Dunn's OPS is among the elite players in baseball. If you have a chance at one of those guys, you get him...i think Vance said that earlier. I agree. :)
