Would you do Corey Patterson for Brad Wilkerson - straight up?

Wilkerson gives a guy who gets on base and has power. RFK seems to deflate HRs, but he's still showing good power (28 2Bs). Could hit anywhere from 1-6 in our lineup...

Bowden loves toolsy and flawed guys like CPatt.

Wilkerson = a poor man's Adam Dunn, and I'd take that. CPatt does not seem to get what he needs to do to improve his game, and I have less and less hope it'll happen.

I'll do that deal any day of the week, but I'm not sure if Bowden would. He wouldn't part with Wilkerson in a proposed Sosa deal this winter, and Sosa has more value in Bowden's mind than Patterson IMO.

Sure every cubs fan would do this deal, but the nationals would laugh anyone who brought this up out of the room, They are in first place why would they trade there leadoff hitter for a guy that just got demoted to AAA.

I agree that it's a ridiculous idea in theory, but don't underestimate the stupidity of Bowden.

You could also ask why that same GM would sign arguably the worst shortstop in the league to a 4-year contract. I wouldn't put it past Bowden to trade for Corey.

i would trade corey for wilkerson so fast... i mean, it's not even a question. i don't think bowden would be able to get past the "wilk-" syllable in his name before i'd yell "OMG DONE NO TRADEBACKS!" and hang up my phone. i love wilkerson, he's a moneyball-type player who does a lot of other things right. he's got speed, good D, and he gets on base lots.

i don't think there's any possibility that bowden could be that stupid, but who knows.

I would die laughing if Bowden agreed to any deal giving up Wilkerson for only Patterson. I would laugh condescendingly if he agreed to Corey+Rusch for Wilk.

I know this might be shocking, but other gms have a job and its not to make the cubs better. There is no way that bowden woudl even consider wilkerson for patterson, no matter what other stupid moves he made. Pattersons trade value is at its lowest right now, and theres no way a team in contention is gonna trade wilkerson for a guy in the minor leagues who plays the same position.

The first person in the thread posed it as a question, and every poster after said that it won't happen, however great it would be if it did. No one said it would happen.

well...it might be feasible if we offered more that just Patterson. Do the 'Nats need help anywhere else? Maybe a 5th starter?

I would readily do Patterson for Wilkerson. I'd even throw in Leicester or Welly to get it done.

Wilkerson would fit nicely into our line-up.

You are all crazy. Wilkerson is white. There is no way he can handle the heat like the black players. Don't you people ever listen to Dusty?

I conceived a more plausable trade netting us Wilk, that in principle is:

Nats get Schmidt, Remmy

Cubs get Wilk

Giants get Patterson, Rusch

If the Giants are going to deal Schmidt, I think they're going to want more than Patterson and Rusch. Even then, I don't know if they'd want Patterson with Ellison in CF, or Rusch with his player option. I do like the idea of inserting ourselves in a Schmidt deal though.

Wilkerson would be a perfect player for this team the way that Paul O'Neil was perfect for the Championship Yankees' teams. But, Bowden is looking for power hitters. He's even trying to trade for Wilson, which is an indication of how desperate they are for a power hitter. Taking away a decent power guy like Wilkerson would not be in line with his goals this year.

Valid point. Maybe a 3 way deal that sends Kearns and Patterson to Washington for Wilkerson? Or how about focusing on Church?

I also had a couple of prospects going as well. I guess with Jerome Williams' pressence, Mitre becomes expendable (am I correct that this is his last year of options?) although I think thats a lot to give up. Maybe see if we can get Eyre back. That would solve both our problems.

However, assuming the Rockies and Nats compromise on the .5M difference they are currently at (and I can't see how they wont) they really don't have room for another OF. Wilson will play center, moving Wilk to first until Johnson comes back with Church coming back to play left. When Johnson comes back some one has to become the odd man out. This year, Wilk is OPSing ~150 points lower than both Church and Johnson and 100 points lower than Guillen. Washington's offensive problems have stemmed from injuries and SS. With Chuch, Vidro, and Johnson coming back, part of the problem will be solved. They could really use a top of the rotation starter if they want to have a chance of making the playoffs and doing any damage in them.

Actually, going after Church isn't a bad idea.

Not a bad idea, tore up AAA last year, and could be a damn fine hitter.

i'd take him too. i just don't understand why the nationals would trade either one of these guys, or why in the world they would want preston wilson. oh well.

If Bowden really twisted our arms, I'd even part with Macias.
