While it is boring on these days off, I started to think that we must lead all teams in money spent that is not on our field now. If you think of guys we have traded, released, send down to minors, etc...you come up with lots of money.

I do not have alot of the salaries, or know where to get them, but here is what I have so far...

Sosa - 20 Million (I think that is what we paid, but not sure...)

Patt - 2.8 Million

JOBO - 2.3 Million

Nomar - 8.25 Million

Then you have all those minimum guys. But that is like 30 some million for guys not on our field this week. Wow. Add your imput and correct me as I am sure I missed something...

plus, i think we had to buy out part of alou's contract, if that counts. i'm thinking it was like 2 million.

I'm pretty sure that Alou's buyout was a part of last year's budget.

i've always wondered what percentage of the budget is spent on the minor leagues: signing bonuses, salaries, travel, scouting, etc. i know those games charge admission, but theres no way they are in the black.

That is a good question. When a high draft pick, or any draftpick for that matter is signed, Do the Cubs pay the signing bonus and then whoever owns the minor league franchise pay the salary? How exactly does that work.

Is Colorado still paying for Hampton and Walker?

Actually, wasnt Florida paying a huge portion of Hampton's salary until last year?
