A day or two ago, Michael was interviewed on the WGN Radio pregame show and talked about his shoulder injury. He claimed that he only recently started to feel like his normal self because the injury caused him to stop lifting weights. The slugishness is gone and it appears he's swinging better.

Just something to keep an eye on.

How did he hurt his shoulder?

I'm not sure. He basically just said that without his weight routine, he didn't feel at full strength.

He's basically floating an excuse because he's giving up on the season and needs something to fall back on.

What a coward.

I think Barrett would be really mad/insulted if he read these boards and saw that Cub fans think he is an excuse-maker. You forget how recently he was wasting away in Montreal - you really think he's given up on this already? Please.

You have got to be kidding me. Jesus Christ. Why do people feel the need to speculate on stuff like this? It never fails.

That's really pathetic and not what this board needs.

With all of the new guests coming to do Q&A's, this is exactly the kind of stuff we don't need them to see. A player is admitting he had something bothering him so you call him a "coward."

Was Lee a "coward" also for talking about how his shoulder was bothering him?

Even if you were being sarcastic there's no call for that.

I have no reason not to believe Michael Barrett, but I'm sick of seeing Cub player who are in this seemingly "in" club not being able to get criticized, but no one cleans up on the rampant criticisms of Perez (I'm guilty), Macias (I'm guilty), Remlinger, Baker, Hendry, Hollandsworth, Wood, etc. We don't need to see a lot of what's on the board.

I think Barrett aggravated his shoulder injury calling for an 0-2 fastball down the middle to Andruw Jones.

He was set up and in for the fastball - Novoa missed location. But it was stupid to even call for a fastball in that 0-2 situation. He had looked bad against breaking pitches last night. And why did Rusch throw fastball after fastball after fastball? That was stupid. All year I've been wondering if Barrett calls the pitches or does he get them from Rothschild.

I don't think it was stupid. Barrett wanted the pitch so high that he was almost entirely out of his crouch. I thought, at 0-2, it was smart to bust him off the plate a little with a high, tight fastball. Novoa could then wipe him out more easily (in theory) with a pitch away. Novoa missed about as badly as you can.

I apologize, I should've been clearer. The call itself wasn't stupid, but calling it with Novoa at that time was, in my opinion. Novoa had missed location on his fastball with Giles the at-bat previous. Not just on the Giles' triple, but on the pitches previous. Barrett was set up down and in on Giles and Novoa missed up. Now how Giles was able to hit that pitch at 5'9", I don't know, but he had missed his spots previously.

what a crap post from a sad little man.

barrett has missed games in the past due to a shoulder injury, I would assume this is the same shoulder. if he plays hurt and doesn't produce he's a bum, but if he doesn't play because he's hurt then he's a wimp. if he admits it's been bothering him but he feels better now, then he's a "coward"

fans suck.

I didn't even know Barrett had a shoulder problem.

It'd be bad enough to lose ARam or Lee but at least the Cubs would have a fighting chance to find a decent replacement. If Barrett goes down it's all Blanco all the time. Egad.

I didn't either, as I didn't know Lee's shoulder had been bothering him. But regarding Barrett, part of the offense's problem is over the last three weeks Barrett has been hitting like Blanco.

I remember a big series that barrett sat because dusty was concerned about his throwing due to a shoulder injury...may have been last year actually

If you've seen many of my posts you know that I try to clean up unjust criticism of Hendry, Baker, Hollandsworth, Wood and Neifi and have defended all of them on more than one occasion.

I've made my positions known on all of them and remained consistent on each one. I don't view Baker any differently now than I did when we were 6 over .500 and on the winning streak. Overall he's a decent manager who gets too much blame for his shortcomings and too much praise for his strengths.

Neifi is a solid defensive replacement and part-time SS who is worth the $1M we're paying him. Hollandsworth was made into a villain early in the year because of Dubois, and even though he has outperformed him, many still don't like him.

Hendry had a poor offseason, and I disagree with some of his philosophies but I feel that he is still a good GM and has done some things that make me think he's capable of change.

I wasn't playing favorites with Barrett by any means. I just thought it was way over the line to call him a "coward" for mentioning that his shoulder is feeling better after it had been bothering him.

C'mon dime, you've been here long enough to know that this isn't warranted. Feel free to disagree with a poster and his or her thoughts, but do so without the insults.

There's a huge difference between speculating on "what this move means" or "who will be the starter" and just coming out and saying that someone is a "lying coward" for mentioning an injury. Grow up.

I never said speculation was wrong, I said speculation over whether someone is lying, or whether or not someone "cares" is pointless and stupid and does nothing except make you look ridiculous.

Well that explains why his swing has been off the past week. Same for Derrek Lee. I wonder how the two got matching shoulder problems...
