A small snippet of this article:

Trade deadline chatter: According to a baseball source, the Nationals have expressed interest in Cubs center fielder Corey Patterson, who is having a subpar season. He is hitting .236 with 11 home runs and 24 RBIs entering Monday's action.

Like Reds outfielder Austin Kearns, who the Nationals have also inquired about, the Nationals feel they can turn Patterson around.

If he were on the Nationals, Patterson could provide power and speed.

What could we possibly get for Patterson from the Nats?

i'd only trade him to Washington if we could get Wilkerson. Sorry, but Washington isn't a team that i would like to trade Corey to.

There aren't many players on that team I'd be interested in aside from Wilkerson. They don't exactly have many (if any) prospects I'd be interested in. Ryan Church might be a nice acquisition, but there's no [expletive] way Dustbag's going to play him every day.

They can be interested all they want. If they're not giving up Wilkerson, I can't say I'd be interested.

What ever happened to Termel Sledge? Outside from having an awesome name I thought he looked good against the Cubs last year.

injured

out for the season

...and probably not as good as he looked against the Cubs. Last year he was about the same offensively as Geoff Jenkins and Rondell White. That's not terrible, but we ought to get more for Patterson from a GM who believes in tools over stats.

how about this trade:

cubs trade patterson and mitre to nationals for sledge

nationals trade mitre to cincy for aurilia, PTBNL

reds trade us dunn for sledge, rich hill, and angel guzman

i don't see this trade happening, but i really can't figure out any way that a trade to washington will be productive from the cubs standpoint. if anyone can figure out a better way to involve cincy in this deal, please feel free to speculate.

*cubs need a big OBP guy in their lineup, gain dunn

*reds need pitching, get a great groundball guy in mitre, two good prospects, and a solid OF in sledge to replace dunn

*washington needs, um, nothing at this point? upgrade at SS in aurilia, and um, pinch runner in corey?

Angel Guzman has no trade value, really.

Eh, it depends. There will always be people out there who'd be willing to give a young right hander with ace upside a chance. Maybe your crapshoot pays off and you get yourself one of the best young pitchers in baseball.

This guy on their AAA team is having a pretty good season.

.291 AVG, .340 OBP, .461 SLG, 9HR, 20BB

yeah, i feel so bad for that guy.

first he has dusty managing his organization's big league club, then he's traded to a team that signs vinny castilla and cristian guzman to multi-year deals.
