Here's the line on both:

AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG

Patterson 306 36 72 9 2 11 24 118 16 81 12 3 .273 .386 .235

Hariston 188 28 52 13 1 3 10 76 19 24 6 8 .367 .404 .277

Note the difference in OBP. Hairston should be our permanent lead-off man....PERIOD!!!

Hey, Dusty...get a clue man.

"But man, that Patterson dude is faster. You gotta have the fastest dude at the top of the lineup so he can steal bases for you. My team needs speed at the top no matter what. What is OBP?"

I don't personally Boo patterson when at the game, but I'm not really a supporter of him anymore. When he plays I hope he suceeds for the cubs sake, but I just don't believe in him anymore. Put him in center and leadoff and see how we do. Follow him by walker and lets see if Lee can drive in those runs.

Get off Dusty's case. He's not really the manager but the Ego Masseuse.

i'd be fine with dusty being a puppet manager with someone in the front office calling the shots a la francona, but that's not the case.

Dusty would never go for that. I don't think there's much humility in that man.

The contrast between Patterson and Hairston is even more striking when you focus on the last 30 days.......

06/03 - 07/04 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
Patterson 103 8 16 3 2 1 26 5 7 36 0.155 0.209 0.252 0.462
Hairston 45 4 15 2 1 2 25 6 3 5 0.333 0.388 0.556 0.943

Corey's defense is hardly gold-glove caliber. Especially since he seems to take his bat out into the field with him now.

He would probably make more contact if he took his glove to the plate too.

And if he overthrew the cutoff man from the plate, that would be a good thing.

i'd think Hairston getting on base at a near .400 clip highly outweighs any defensive trade-off, especially when you consider said trade-off will likely disappear once you actually leave Jerry at one position and let him get used to it.

I'm over Corey, while I think he still has the potential to turn into a very good player, it isn't going to happen here. Leave Jerry in center, make Corey a part of a deal to upgrade in left....

I hate to say it, but I think you are right. How long is Walker signed as well? Hairston could take over 2nd base next year if they won't want walker, although I don't know why you wouldn't want walker. Can Kotsay play center? Maybe we can swing something like that and put either or in center or left.

Apparently Patterson going to start tonight, I'm certain, he won't be leading off but, as result of his playing tonight, Perez is most likely going to lead off. Let's see, the Cubs are struggling to score runs, so let’s have Perez, who is arguably worse than Patterson, leading off, that's the solution. I know Baker is the kind of Manager who'll stick with a player thru thick and thin but, a some point winning has to priority one. I'm really starting to believe winning isn't Baker' main focus or goal, if it were, Hairston would be put in CF and the lead off spot on permanent basis and Cedeno would be playing more SS.

I'm curious to see how Hairston would do over the long haul getting starts every day. Keep in mind that Baltimore traded him away over Brian Roberts largely because he kept getting injured all the time.

No... they traded him over Roberts because Roberts is a much better player...
