"... have been unable to find a match with prospects."

In other words, the Cubs won't give them more than moderate prospects. Nor should they.

Agreed. I still think the Cubs can do better than Preston Wilson.

I am sure they can do better than Wilson as well, but I have the feeling that time is running out, and that Hnedry doesn't have the luxury of waiting until the last week of July to get something done.

I think if Jim wants to salvage this season, he is going to have to overpay to expedite things.

I wonder if Hendry is talking to the Pirates.

How would Matt Lawton be an upgrade? Unless of course it means the end of the line for Macias.

Lawton has a .271/.377/.825 line this year. How would that not be an upgrade? He's not Adam Dunn, but that .377 OBP would sure be nice.

As I've said in other threads, I've always liked Matt Lawton in the first half of a season, but he's typically injured or unproductive in the 2nd half, so he can be a huge risk. My contact in Pittsburgh tells me Matt's a huge liability on the basepaths and in the outfield too, so that's plenty of cause for concern. But considering he's in his walk year, maybe he'll be extra motivated to remain healthy and perform well in the 2nd half with a contender since he's essentially playing for his next contract.

I guess I had a misperception about his stats both this year and career. He would be nice to have, but the way Hollandsworth is going, it'd be nicer to find a SS with those same numbers.

Finding an Available SS with decent numbers is a much trickier proposition.

Remember who fills out the linep card.

Remember a couple of years ago when we re-dealt for Jose Hernandez from Colorado, just to include him in the Pittsburgh deal? Any possible way we are doing the same with Wilson? Just an idea as I ponder how wrong this season has gone...

What, right under our very noses? How could this be? Seriously, what will it take to get Dusty to at least give him more opportunities to prove what he can do at the major league level?

The only thing that concerns me about Lawton is his SB/CS ratio. He's 9 out of 18 right now...Yikes. A CS is twice as harmful to a team as a SB is good for a team, in my opinion...The fact that he was 23/9 in SB/CS and 9/9 this year scares me.
